Today we’d like to introduce you to Maite Kuhns.
Hi Maite, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For nearly three decades, I have been part of the restaurant industry. From casual to fine dining, family-friendly to party bars. My experience ranges from being a server trainer to the service manager, training coordinator to a project manager. And now, as a business owner, I am grateful that I worked in so many different roles. I started my business after being laid off during Covid. I have been in business for nearly two years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Losing my big, cushy corporate job was the catalyst for starting my own business. I was scared to death to do anything out of my comfort zone, unsure if I would ever get hired or if the industry would recover and even want restaurant consultants, and frozen in fear of where to start. I had built my career doing things I loved and avoided anything that I didn’t like. At 41, being forced to grow again and do things I didn’t want to do was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help restauranteur’s visions become a reality by focusing on creating raving fans within the four walls. Restaurant staff is the most important asset and variable in any business. They deserve to have an ideal work experience and I work tirelessly to create that. My main service solutions include: leadership training, culture architect, staff training and quality assurance for existing restaurants. I also specialize in new restaurant openings. I am proud of all the work I do. Training can be hard to justify on a P&L right away but I know the impact I can have. I am so grateful to get to share my love and passion for the hospitality industry.
I believe my no-nonsense style and my ability to exude genuine hospitality sets me apart from others.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
People. Hospitality is a people business. A guest will never love your restaurant if your staff doesn’t first. They deserve to be provided vision, training & education, great communication, motivated for greatness, and appreciated! Restaurants can be depleting and it is the leadership’s job to make sure the team has everything they need to be successful. My joy comes from providing systems and structures for organizations so they can provide support effortlessly
