Daily Inspiration: Meet Mimi Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Harris.

Mimi Harris

Hi, Mimi. I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story? How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been on social media for a very long time. I’ve always enjoyed sharing a part of who I am with others because I’ve always known a shy, quiet type of girl. Then, I discovered TikTok and started creating African skits. I started sometime last year, and it completely took off. When I recorded my first video, it hit up to 20k, but TikTok took it down due to people reporting my video, and I didn’t allow that to stop me from making more. With my videos going viral, I would have people come up to me and say, “Ma musue,” and I would laugh. It makes me feel good knowing that people find my videos funny and are actually entertained by them. I have yet to hit 10k followers on TikTok, but I have 6k, and the way I look at numbers is like imagining you being in a room with 6,000 people; that’s a lot of people.

But all in all, I want people and females in general to know that it’s ok to try something different in your life, and even if you don’t have the full support, keep posting and keep being yourself. I’m from a state where the support system is built off popularity and who can flex the most money and wear the most designer clothes for social media. I can be myself and not care about what other people think or how they view me because I’m living for myself,f not others. You never really know what or who someone can become tomorrow.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
On my journey, it hasn’t been too difficult. There have been days when I would post a skit and have it only get 700 views and 100 likes. I would feel a little down about it, but that just taught me that next time, I may need to try a little harder and sit and think about what I’m posting and if I was in other people’s shoes like what I sit and watch my video and laugh.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do?
I am currently in school doing my pre-work to become an ultrasound technician. If you look at my TikTok page, you’ll see that I may post fewer skits now because my life has become a little busy. I work, go to school, go to the gym, and hang out with my friends here and there, but my main friend is my boyfriend. I enjoy spending time with him; he helps me develop and become a better version of myself daily. What I am most proud of is my growth as a person. Before, I used to be around a lot of stuff I wasn’t supposed to be around, and I’m not judging the way how others are, but I just knew that wasn’t me nor what I wanted, so I completely cut out the outer world, and it’s like I put this bubble over my life where no one can cross nor get in. What sets me apart is that I’m very disciplined and mature. I don’t go out fighting, arguing, or gossiping about others because I don’t find any pleasure in it and simply because I don’t care. If it is not anything beneficial to me or my future, then I don’t see any need to put any energy into it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I give some credit to my little cousin for helping me record the majority of my skits. I tell him what to do, and we laugh and mess up, but we get the job done.
