Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebecca Hansen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Hansen.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve loved doing everything creative for as long as I can remember. I started making beaded jewelry almost 5 years ago; many different interests of mine influence my designs. Namely, things like anime, video games, television shows, and even D&D. Beading is something I can spend hours on, making unique designs for each piece so that nothing is ever the same. I expanded into photography after taking an elective at a local community college. It was like love at first ‘click’! I prefer taking photos of nature though I’ve also done photoshoots for graduations and cosplay. I love taking photos that look like paintings the most. It’s probably why I’m so drawn toward the sky, especially up here in Duluth. The sky over Lake Superior is gorgeous, whether day or night.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been entirely smooth. A few bumps in the road and a few curves as well. Especially once I decided to head back to college. I had little time between my classes, homework, and job to spend as much time on my designs as I wanted. After transferring to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, I was lucky to get a chance to work at the Glensheen Mansion. This gave me many more chances to take photos while working somewhere full of history. After a year, I switched to a full-time job on campus. Working part-time wasn’t enough to cover expenses any longer. It has improved the time I can spend on my designs but comes at the cost of no longer working at the Glensheen.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in scenic photography and creating ‘nerdy’ jewelry designs. I take photos of nature and especially the sky. I love taking photos that could almost be paintings. Clouds and the Night Sky are my favorite subjects. I’m most proud of my photo of the Lift Bridge lit up in maroon and gold. The composition of the shot is something I strive toward with every photo I take. As for my jewelry designs, I specialize in designs influenced by ‘nerd’ culture. Video games, anime, television shows, D&D, and K-Pop; are all things that I enjoy doing and watching. The best part of my jewelry designs is that each piece is unique. No two pieces will ever be the same. Stringing each bead, choosing the centerpieces, and selecting the appropriate clasp is a process that I put a lot of thought into. Both my photography and jewelry designs are done with love. They’re something I am truly passionate about.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
Collaboration with other artists would be amazing. I already plan to reach out to local artists for more unique centerpieces for my jewelry. I would also love to have my photography featured wherever possible. You can reach out to me at my email: ariaxerlixdesign@gmail.com.

For those who buy my photos or jewelry, tagging me on Instagram and sharing with your friends are two of the best ways to support me further.
