Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebecca Roddy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Roddy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved photography, and I started photographing professionally in 2012. Through the years, I’ve learned a lot about what brings me joy, and I’ve built my business around those areas. I’m primarily a wedding, family portrait, and senior picture photographer because that is what I really like doing. I love the infectious love of a wedding. I love the sweet chaos of a family with little ones. I love capturing a senior’s real personality. Above all, I love capturing true emotion, and giggles are my absolute favorite! I firmly believe all photography sessions should be fun! I have my engaged couples do so many silly games during our sessions, because that is what gets them laughing and truly enjoying themselves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the toughest struggle recently has definitely been all the canceled weddings. I feel for all the brides who had to reschedule their wedding once or twice, or who are still waiting for a good time to have their wedding.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I primarily do weddings, family sessions, and senior pictures. My style is vibrant, joy filled, and timeless. I also love color. Anytime I schedule a family session and Mom shows up in a fantastic bold dress I am over the moon. If I had to describe myself, I would say that I am sweet & kind and that I think those are truly my superpowers. I want people to really enjoy working with me, and I truly enjoy getting to know my clients.

I also always tell people that I have the best job in the world – I get to capture the happiest days of my client’s life: the sweet toes of a newborn, the happy love of an engaged couple, a groom’s face as he sees his bride for the first time…. my job is so rewarding!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Owatonna! It really is a gem. We have kind people, fantastic parks, and great schools. My personal favorite things to do in town are attending the library’s children’s gardening program & ice skating on the Straight River in the winter.
