Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Swender.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a Wisconsin born outdoor enthusiast that enjoys a healthy balance of animation and hoofing it on trails as much as I can. The Superior Hiking Trail has a special place in my heart and I always try to get new friends to enjoy it with me and let them find the love I have for the trail too.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone ever has a smooth road and mine has been far from it. I prefer to look at it as each bump and turn in my road has really shaped me into the person I am today. Obstacles and failures are the best teacher after all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started with old school 2D traditional animation and now enjoy the bridge between digital 2D and 3D animation. I think my love for story telling and problem solving gives me a unique perspective when facing the often grueling task of animating. I hold firm that every media of art can teach lessons that translate across the board.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a goblin in the woods of a small town off Lake Michigan to keep it quaint. I always enjoyed being outdoors and going on walking holidays and that has followed me into my adult years definitely.
