Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Zilberg.
Hi Steven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Schizophrenia was not a foreign topic when I was younger. My biological mother struggled with schizophrenia. I would be adopted at the age of 10. My own journey related to schizophrenia started freshman year of college.
In 2010, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It was during the early period of my diagnosis that I witnessed the destructive nature of schizophrenia. I spent time overseas in South Africa, Yemen, Somalia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Once I realized a change needed to occur. I started to focus on learning coping skills, medication management, as well as participating in peer support groups. I believe God put me on this Earth for a reason.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve struggled with trying to learn how to live with schizophrenia. I also am a recovering alcoholic. Due to various jobs overseas such as in Yemen, Indonesia, and Somalia; I struggle with adapting to civilian life (diagnosed with PTSD).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a mental health therapist. My specialty and/or education background is in a combination of Christianity, sociology, and psychology.
