Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Gazdik
Tara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been what’s considered “plus sized” since I was in elementary school and I didn’t really begin to feel “ok” with my body until well into my 20s when I finally stopped trying to wear what was trendy and instead wore what made me feel comfortable and confident in my own body.
I get genuinely excited when I’m asked where I found “xyz” because I love sharing the brands/stores/influencers that have been game changers for me so a couple years ago I started creating fashion and body positive content under the handle @tarajanestyle – which is how we ended up here!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With a marketing background and a history of social media management, I didn’t come into this space blindly. I already knew the amount of effort it was going to take to stay on top of social media trends and that the algorithm is rarely your friend. So I came in with zero expectations which has helped me to truly appreciate each and every milestone.
I’ve been very fortunate to have quickly established my own little corner of the internet where I’m constantly supported and hyped up. However, as a woman using social media, I don’t think it’s a secret that unwanted comments about my body are constantly flowing and that has been a struggle for me. Not because of the comments themselves, I very easily shake those off, but because it makes me so incredibly sad that there are people out there that legitimately get joy out of being ugly to other people. Life is just too short for that shit. I recently read somewhere that someone else’s opinion on my body is none of my business and that has more or less become my battle cry as I’ve continued on my body confidence journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always been a creative person, I just never really found my medium until social media. I’m far from being anywhere near the best at it, but I love community building and sharing my life with people (or oversharing depending on how you look at it haha).
I love that with every post I’m able to share my truth and my own battles with self confidence and know that it is heard and resonates with other women. Anytime I receive a comment or message from someone else sharing their own story or letting me know that something I’ve done or said has helped them, it cements my purpose and reminds me why I started this.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Putting myself out there was a risk that has, for the most, part paid off. Life is too short to not try things that scare you. I highly encourage everyone to continually push yourself out of your comfort zone, because that’s where the magic happens.
