Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Dahl.
Hi Tori, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My passion for scent began when I was a little girl. I grew up on 3 acres in the Texas hill country. In the spring Mountain Laurel would bloom with fragrant purple blossoms. Saturday mornings, I would wake to the sound of my father mowing the lawn. I would open my window to breathe in the scent of freshly cut grass combined with the scent of Mountain Laurel. Unbeknownst to me, a scent that years later, still triggers a memory of the comfort of home. Smell and emotion are stored in our brains as one memory. This explains why fragrance has the power to influence our mood and well-being.
Fragrance and scent have been an integral part of my life, from perfume to home fragrance. I’d grown to find comfort in the simple act of breathing in certain fragrances. With a background in business, design, and home decor I understand the importance of curating beautiful spaces not only with art and furnishings but with fragrance. In 2019, I began developing a line of home fragrances and perfumes. Our signature fragrances are what make our collection so special. Every fragrance is custom blended using only the finest ingredients. They are then carefully named to reflect the feeling evoked when you breathe in one of our signature fragrances.
Our signature fragrances: Love, Clarity, Solitude, Shine, Serenity, and Refuge are available in candles, wax melts, linen and room sprays, and reed diffusers. Offering you the option to enjoy our fragrances in a variety of ways. With every breath you take, we hope to evoke your fondest memories and help create the perfect mood within your home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have learned to not let fear get in the way of my journey. Jim Carrey describes it best, “it’s just about letting the universe know what you want and working toward it while letting go of how it comes to pass.”
I am not afraid to take chances. Every missed opportunity closed door, and failed product attempt is a step toward my final destination. I wouldn’t be where I am today in my business without them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a creative who was taught at an early age that it’s ok to color outside the lines. My mother tells the story that when I was a little girl when I would accidentally color outside the lines I would get upset, throw it away, and start all over again.
When I started kindergarten, she told the teacher that all she wanted was for me to learn that it was ok to color outside the lines, to learn from my mistakes, and to embrace them. In all the years of schooling, I think that is one of the most valuable lessons I learned.
When I began blending fragrances for my collection it was important to me to create a fragrance unlike any other. I didn’t follow the rules of top middle or base notes. I blend fragrances by “coloring outside the box”.
In 2023 I began shifting my focus from online sales to brick and mortar. Our collection is currently in 2 local boutiques in Cypress, Tx. We are also in a retail co-op in Old Town Spring Tx. By 2024 I hope to open our first Dahl Farmhouse Collection brick and mortar.
What makes you happy?
I used to think this was a complicated question. Then, one day, I listened to a podcast asking what would we write about ourselves if we had to write our obituary.
I think I was born happy.
I want to be remembered as a woman who lived life to its fullest. Who wasn’t afraid to take chances? Who encouraged others to live extraordinary lives. Who always looked to the bright side. Who made others feel loved simply by the radiance of her smile, her kindness, and the attention and love she gave them.
It’s hard not to be happy when you choose to see the world for all of its wonder and glory.
