Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyler Maxwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Maxwell.

Hi Tyler, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I played college football at Augsburg College and that’s when I moved to Minneapolis from Prior Lake in 2011. I’ve been into local music since it clicked in my head around 2013 that people in my city make music. Before then it never really crossed my mind. I’ve always been pretty ambitious and outgoing. I started what I thought was gonna be a digital marketing agency in 2018. Still had the same name Create Capital, because that was the ultimate goal.

I found out that it’s extremely complicated and even after spending almost two years working on that it never really went anywhere. Since then I’ve tried a few other business ideas to try to become an entrepreneur and I’m still working hard to become one.

In late 2021 I was introduced to a studio that allows me to use their recourses to create content, I spent about 6 months in the studio recording episodes that will never see the light of day working on my production skills with the lighting and cameras. Then I realized I needed to teach myself how to edit. Which is the biggest learning curve. I just put out my first episode about 3 months ago so I really spent about 9 months learning everything needed to know and took my time. I’ve never been someone to rush ideas I’m a realist and knew my skills and camera presence was not ready to put out. Since the first episode dropped 3 months ago, we’ve put out 11 episodes with all types of creators, producers, entrepreneurs and brand owners and the feedback has been amazing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been extremely difficult to do this the right way. A wise man once said, “Slow motion is better than no motion.” I knew taking my time would allow me to build my skills up to the point where what I pictured in my head would be close to what I can actually create.

I’ve lost about 8 episodes due to a corrupted SD card which was devastating but there was nothing I could do about it. I’ve also recorded episodes where the audio just didn’t come through so there have been many challenges along the way. Learning how to edit, make reels, TikToks and all the social media was very time-consuming. Everything about this directly correlates to skills I’ve had to learn and over 100 hours of practice and research. It hasn’t been easy but the feedback makes it very rewarding.

Another challenge is building a reliable team. I’ve added people and kicked people off the team. It difficult to find people who have the same vision as you and similar motivation. What I’ve learned is nobody will care as much about your project as you.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Audi Brand Specialist by day. I like car sales, I like Audi’s and being in this space with doing a podcast where I get to be myself allows me to truly express the art of duality. Because I can’t be the same person in both environments.

I work in a 25-million-dollar building with millions of dollars of luxury vehicles so it’s definitely a vibe. I’ve probably done around 10 million in revenue over the past two years, which I’m pretty proud of but there’s always room for improvement. Consistently shaking hands with doctors, athletes, lawyers, etc., definitely brings a sense that I’m doing something important as well.

I’ve always been someone who can communicate well, so sales have just come naturally. It goes hand in hand with the podcast too because I can talk to and relate with someone I’m selling a car to even though we may have nothing in common. On the podcast I will more often than not have more in common with someone I’m interviewing so it makes it easy. Overall I’m a people person but I thoroughly enjoy my alone time. I think people grow the most when they spend time alone.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’m the middle child so that should be enough to know. I have an older sister and younger brother and I love them to death. Even though I may have put them through hell sometimes when I was a kid.

I was always rebellious, rambunctious, and energetic as a child.

One time I tripped a kid on purpose in daycare and he had to get stitches in his head, hated that kid. One time I was running away from my grandma because she was gonna whoop me after to told her to shut up. She started to chase me and I hit a hard cut around a coffee table and she tried to hit the same cut and fell and broke her hip. We had to pull the alarm at the place she lived at and the police and firemen came I was terrified and felt so bad. Even if it wasn’t conscious, I felt like I was always wanting attention.
