We recently had the chance to connect with DJ Pat Boom and have shared our conversation below.
Pat, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
My most recent moment that made me proud, was the completion of my very first full-length feature film. It was 10 months of true grit, sweat and perseverance. I have an amazing team, possibly thee best team on earth. They saw my vision and was 100% behind me. I couldn’t have done it without them. No major funding, no film school, no acting school. I went against all odds. and was blessed with what was achieved.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the CEO of Boomzbeatz Multimedia. under that umbrella we offer Boomz-TV, an app on Roku and Amazon Fire-TV. It showcases 2-24 hour music videos channels. the Banger Channel and the Blessings Channel. Next is Boomshotz Imaging, our film editing company, as well as RachelGillen Filmography, our photo company led by superstar photographer Rachel Gillen. We are currently promoting our new movie, Blood on the Turntables. It was shot in the Twin Cities, over the entire summer. -Look out for the pay per view on Boomz-TV, on or after Thanksgiving. Download the app on Roku or Amazon Fire TV.
Last but not least, DJ Pat Boom’s Detroit Style Hot & BBQ Sauce, a partnership with Rasta Tease, is making moves across the country.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I have t say that I don’t feel “powerful”. Sure, I have influence over a few things, but I don’t view that as being “powerful”. I think that being helpful is more important than being powerful. Sadly, most people of power are often remembered more than the people that were being helpful, but I’m okay with that.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yesssssssssssss. So many times, I have lost count!! Life gets in the way, and it deters us. It’s a natural thing. Bills don’t stop because you got a great idea. You have to find a way say, I’m gonna do this! And then actually do it!! I know it’s easier said than done, Trust me. You just gotta dig deep!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to be an artist. As an artist, I used to believe that my music is soooo good, that someone will come along and recognize that and change my life immediately. The illusion of getting discovered is just that, an illusion. I’m sure a lucky few has had that happen, but it’s most unlikely than likely. So it’s important to “sign” yourself first. Invest in yourself, and if your music is good and is heard by many, doors will start to open. but it won’t happen overnight.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stop working so much, slow down, spend more time with my loved ones. Life is too short, and no one is promised tomorrow. Due to my busy schedule, my daughters and I haven’t really spent too much time together lately. I am working on that currently.
