Edit Values Meet May Stamper

Today we’d like to introduce you to May Stamper.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My interest in photography started at a young age. When I became a mom and involved in Boxer Rescue, my passion grew. In 2016 I started my own photography business because as a single mom, I was unable to afford senior pictures for my kids. I wanted to be able to provide photography to families that couldn’t afford professional photographers. I now mainly shoot landscapes and wildlife, but I also take photos of people.

I try to capture my passion for nature and wildlife in my photos, in the hopes that it will draw the viewer into that moment and can feel themselves in that same moment as I was taking the picture.

I take people’s pictures on location and not in a studio. I love to capture people in a natural surroundings and enjoy life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have a full time job that pays the bills. Photography is a tough profession to get into. I have found it most difficult getting my name and photos out there for the public to see and want to buy. I am on several social media sites and post my photos for sale.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to photograph the flora and fauna along the Mississippi River. Bald Eagles are my passion, capturing their majestic grace and beauty in flight.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I follow several professional photographers and study their work. I am also currently in the process of earning my A.A.S. in Professional Photography.

I have had the good fortune to have family photos taken by May. They are beautiful, and her talent really shines. May is by far the most talented photographer I’ve ever met, and a lovely human being as well.
