Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Swerdlick.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
At a young age, I knew I wanted to do something to help people feel better and great about themselves. That lead me to getting my CNA while a junior in high school, and taking generals for the nursing program my senior year. I started young working in nursing homes and assisted living dementia units. I was of coarse trying to get experience for that nursing degree I was planning on getting. But the problem was, I hated the health care system and it wasn’t all loving and nurturing as I hoped for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After realizing I did not want to be a nurse I was kinda lost. I remained taking business generals but my heart was not there. So I decided at 21 to pack up and move to San Diego where my now ex-husband would be shortly after his service in the Marines was done. I did very well out there by working in mortgages back when anyone could be approved. But I hated it! I knew I wasn’t meant to sit behind a desk. So I found and enrolled in The Natural Healing Institute in Encinitas CA and I loved it. I learned all about herbology, essential oils, in depth knowledge on different nutritional plans and tons about vitamins and minerals that you don’t learn in health class. That’s just to name a few things. It was all about viewing the system in a holistic viewpoint.
As you know, we’re big fans of Skin Deep by Angie. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
So many years later after knowing we wanted to be near family, we moved back to Uptown, I continued working on loans and dreaded every day. Until I was gifted a facial. I thought it was a massage but instead, it was an epiphany. I had goose bumps the whole time and I felt like Oprah was there saying this is your Ahh Haa moment Angie. It was the nurturing and healing job I always wanted. I had already had so much knowledge relevant to the role. Essential oils, herbology, nutrition and much more relevant to ingredients. Our skin is the largest organ and is a reflection of what is going on within.
From there I instantly quit my day job, signed up for school and now 14 years later I am still just in love with my job as day one. I have been so privileged to see the different scopes of skin care. From amazing spas, dermatology clinincs, medispas, and I now have my own business that I am able to use all of that experience to help people feel nurtured and beautiful about themselves.
I also obtained my Advanced Practice Instructor License and currently teach the Advanced Practice program at the Institute of Advanced Aesthetics and love doing both!
