Exploring Life & Business with Captain Brian Koshenina of Muskies and More Guide Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Captain Brian Koshenina.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started fishing at the age of 4. I learned how to fish from my father. I was lucky enough to have parents who enjoyed the outdoors. Most of my childhood was spent at a campground or a lake somewhere in Minnesota. As I grew older I found that I enjoyed the competitive sport of tournament fishing. I competed as an amateur against some of the best anglers in the Midwest.
I took the skills that I learned as a tournament Angler and started a business as a fishing guide in 2003.

I found that I loved meeting new people and I enjoyed teaching and watching my clients become successful anglers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was difficult at first to establish a customer base. I didn’t have much of a marketing budget so I utilized Craigslist and handed out business cards. There wasn’t much for social media so most of my business was by word of mouth. It definitely wasn’t easy the first couple of years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Muskies and More Guide Service?
I pride myself on customer service. My prices are very affordable. Whether you’re fishing by yourself or you’re bringing your whole family I want all to walk away with a smile, a bag of fish, and a desire to come back. I’m a multi-species guide that offers both boat fishing and walk-in River fishing.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Make small, obtainable goals. Don’t put too much pressure on your self trips don’t always go as planned.

Brian is a great guide, gives you information you can leave with while catching fish. Brian took myself and a great friend out in the metro caught over 100 fish. Used plastics all day not one live bait used, never used plastics before , always a live bait guy. Was quite the experience.

I have fished with Brian several times, and have come to consider him a good friend. That’s his nature. You will go out with him as your guide and come back to the dock with a new good friend! I’ve always enjoyed the experience of going out with Brian, and the people in our group have as well.
