Today we’d like to introduce you to Cephus Dorpoh.
Hi Cephus, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From Liberia to the U.S. and Back: My Journey in Building Vision Estates Liberia
I am an immigrant from West Africa, Liberia, who moved to the United States about a decade ago to join my family. After arriving, I pursued higher education in Minneapolis, graduating from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Business Management. In later years, I furthered my education by earning a Construction Management certificate from New York University, combining my passion for business with my interest in building and development.
My Entrepreneurial Journey
Before stepping into real estate, I established Red Vision, a successful photography and cinematography company built on creativity, storytelling, and service. Running that business sharpened my leadership, management, and entrepreneurial skills—tools that prepared me for my next big chapter.
Leading Vision Estates Liberia
Today, I am the CEO of Vision Estates Liberia, a fast-growing real estate company based in Liberia. Our mission is simple but powerful: to serve diaspora Liberians who want to own land, build homes, or invest in commercial property back home. Too often, Liberians abroad struggle to invest in real estate due to trust issues or lack of reliable systems. My company was created to change that narrative by providing transparency, professionalism, and long-term value.
One of the things I am most proud of is introducing—for the first time ever in Liberia—financing options for people who want to build. With over 10 years of banking and finance experience in Minnesota, I knew the importance of accessible financing. That’s why I partnered with local banks in Liberia to bring mortgage and construction financing solutions to the people, opening doors that were once closed.
My Mission
My goal is to help Liberians all around the world, especially in the United States, establish assets back home. I believe that real estate is one of the most powerful ways to build wealth, create stability, and leave a legacy for future generations. Through Vision Estates Liberia, I am not just selling property—I am building trust, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and empowering Liberians everywhere to invest in their future.
My journey—from moving abroad, to building businesses in the U.S., to now leading one of Liberia’s fast-growing real estate companies—has been driven by one vision: to bridge the gap between the diaspora and home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Challenges Behind the Vision
When I first started, one of the biggest hurdles was striking deals with banks to introduce mortgage and financing options in Liberia for the very first time. It took persistence, countless meetings, and determination to convince financial institutions that this was possible. On top of that, I had to find a credit processing company that could handle transactions securely for clients abroad—a task that required research, negotiation, and patience.
Another challenge was building my client base from scratch. I leaned heavily on social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook, creating videos, answering questions, and sharing content to earn the trust of diaspora Liberians. Many nights I stayed up late—sometimes until dawn—editing videos, taking client calls across different time zones, and preparing marketing content.
All of this happened while I was still juggling a 9-to-5 job in the United States. Balancing my career, personal life, and building Vision Estates meant long hours, sleepless nights, and constant sacrifices. I spent time, money, and countless trips back and forth to Liberia, reinvesting everything I could to get the company off the ground.
