Hi Cierra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story began when I was 13, with my horse LF Sierra Rose. She had been struggling despite every treatment we tried, until a veterinarian suggested acupuncture. I was skeptical, but after that treatment she was more fluid, balanced, and relaxed then I had ever seen her. Ten years later, I was in acupuncture school. I tried it for myself for pain caused by endometriosis, pain I had dealt with for over a decade. After just a few treatments combined with herbal formulas, I experienced my first pain free cycle. That was life changing and confirmed for me that this medicine is powerful.
Since then, Ive dedicated my career to bringing that same healing experience to others. I founded Healing Focus Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, LLC, and for over 12 years I’ve been serving individuals and families across Southern Minnesota, and Northern Iowa. My practice philosophy is simple: you are not a diagnosis. Each person deserves a treatment plan tailored specifically to their needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any small business, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a practice comes with its own set of challenges, like learning how to run a business, build a patient base, and wear all the hats at once as a sole practitioner. There are times when it is a lot to manage, being the only person in the practice.
Overall, I’ve felt an overwhelming amount of support from my community. That support has helped me grow and sustain my practice for over 12 years, and it reminds me why I do this work. Even with the challenges, I love what I do. Helping people heal and being a trusted resource in my community has mad the journey incredibly worthwhile.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something most people don’t know is that I actually started off in pre-pharmacy, and chiropractic school before shifting to acupuncture. My original path was very Western medicine-oriented, and I think that background gives me a unique appreciation for bridging traditional and modern approaches. I was also a part of the South Dakota Equestrian Team, which taught me discipline and teamwork long before I ever ran my own practice.
Outside of work, people are often surprised to learn that I’ve had horses for over 30 years. They’ve been a huge part of my life and even influenced how I first discovered acupuncture. I also love to spin poi, and one of my personal goals is to try fire poi someday. And of course, one of the best parts of my life is being a mom. It is something that brings balance and perspective to my life and work everyday.
