Today we’d like to introduce you to Clinton Strother.
Hi Clinton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our family has been in the Twin Ports area of Duluth and Superior since the 1940’s and we are the 2nd oldest African American family in the area. My late uncle started detailing in his single car garage in North Minneapolis more than 35 years ago. Since that time, we have opened and operated 2 shops in Little Canada Minnesota called Prestige Auto Center, and Minnesota Rust Prevention.
The newest location here in Duluth opened about two years ago to fill a need for rust prevention and deluxe detailing in this area. In 2020 Minnesota Rust Prevention started offering a product called Wool Wax a lanolin-based undercoating to stop and prevent rust on new and existing vehicles. They were getting vehicles from all over the state of Minnesota and Wisconsin. We decided to open a shop in the Duluth area, and we became an authorized Wool Wax applicator. We now serve all of northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth transition. We had a very limited budget, and we had to build this business from the ground up. Our biggest challenge was education. Wool Wax is new technology, and people were not aware of it and its benefits. Web design and marketing were our biggest obstacles.

1. My wife Karen and I own the business, and we employ 2 people that have had trouble finding employment due to their past.

3. We specialize in undercoating, ceramics, hi-speed buffing, paint correction, and of course top-quality detailing.
4. We are the only Wool Wax applicator in the area.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
this industry is relatively new because of how vehicles are made now.
We are going to see continued growth.
We hope to open another location here in Minnesota in the next year or so.
