Exploring Life & Business with Dan Hamlet of 360 Integrated Financial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Hamlet.

Hi Dan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a financial advisor for 16+ years. About 5 years ago a client asked me to help them invest in a biblical way, avoiding gambling, pornography and abortion. I spent the next few years become a specialist at this. 3 years ago I discovered an advanced certification called the Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) that teaches financial planning through the lens of scripture. It shattered my secular investing worldview. A year ago I started 360 Integrated Financial to help people who are trying to grow in discipleship and stewardship to integrate their faith and their finances. I help them to make the transition from thinking like owners to thinking like stewards, and I help them to invest in ways that are aligned with their faith.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My worldview was shattered by the Kingdom Advisor course. I knew that I needed to do something different. The Holy Spirit needed to push me out my very comfortable world so that I could take this step, so there was some conflict with my previous employer, making cooperating with the Holy Spirit much easier!
Then, after starting this business I still needed to knit my worldview back together, so I wrote a book, “Through the Eye of the Needle; Can I get to Heaven if I have money”.
I am at peace now, growth is flowing, clients who are hungry for good counsel that honor’s their desire to grow in discipleship are finding me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
360 Integrated Financial is an investment advisory and financial planning firm that specializes in Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) and Stewardship-centered Financial Planning. We also provide business consulting around the area of Business Exit planning.
We serve individual investors in families, helping them grow in discipleship through their finances.
We serve non-profits and churches with employee retirement benefits that include faith-based investment options.
We serve Christian business owners who want advisors who will help them lead their businesses as Stewards instead of owners.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk looks a little different when you think like a Steward. Success and Failure are no longer solely on my shoulders. I take every decision to prayer and include God in it. This is not some magical formula that ensures success. God teaches through failure, as often as through success. But I no longer feel guilt and shame at failure. I can go in and “have it out” with God Psalm-style, and learn what He is trying to teach me easier if I cooperate with the lesson.
The entire business is a risk, from the world’s view of risk. We spent most of this year burning through savings as we got this up and running. But I don’t have the anxiety that I have had in the past in other business ventures and with other big risks I have taken.
Risk is necessary in life. Without it, big successes are impossible. Big risks require big sacrifices. But we don’t need to do this alone. And realizing that I am a Steward has made all the difference.
