Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Miskowiec.
Hi Haley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my dietetic career about 8 years ago with the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program in North Carolina which is where I went to college. I worked for WIC for about 3 years and then became a Nutrition Services Coordinator at a Head Start & Early Head Start agency. As I continued to work with women and children I realized the amount of misinformation given, lack of updated evidenced based nutrition information, and how our policies do not support a healthy lifestyle for all. So my full time career moved towards working on policy, system and environment changes which took me away from working 1:1 with women and children. I missed this and was sought out by friends to help them with nutrition. It was then that I decided why not do this on my own to be able to work 1:1 still and be able to provide updated evidence based nutrition information to everyone in my own way. I can preach what I know is going to be beneficial and life changing to women during their pregnancy journeys and not be held back because our guidelines are 1-2 decades behind. As I started my private practice, my love for it continues to grow each day and what I realized lights me up.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but what is? There is so much about owning my own private practice that I was not taught in college. I was taught human nutrition not marketing, social media, accounting, taxes for a small business, etc. So there has defiantly been a learning curve. You wear many hats as an entrepreneur and being able to excel at all of them takes time along with mistakes and struggles to continue to get better at them. In addition, I have had a baby since starting my private practice which meant time off my business. I feel like though when you have struggles as an entrepreneur you learn that its a part of the journey along with reaching out for help to someone who is an expert in a space you are not will allow you to be able to focus on the things you are good at and move forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Nutrition with Haley?
I am a registered dietitian who specializes in pre and postnatal nutrition. I help women from preconception through postpartum have healthy, confident, feel-good journeys by using a holistic approach. The journey of becoming a mother is a crucial period where nutrition is important yet there is so much outdated information out there that leaves women feeling overwhelmed and confused about how to have a healthy pregnancy. My Nourish Baby & Me Foundations program allows women to have the pregnancy journey they deserve by providing them with personalized care, up to date evidence based information, and a body-positive approach!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That you are more capable then you can imagine. Asking for help is a strength and will allow you to go further. Be patient with the process. There will be ups and downs and you just have to buckle up and ride the waves.
