Exploring Life & Business with Jennifer Jeska of Jennifer Jeska Medium and Haven Hair Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Jeska.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had been a hairdresser for 25 years still very much enjoying it, but this industry does take a toll on the body and I started wishing I had alternative work to do that wasn’t as physical so that I could continue doing hairdressing but just a little bit less. The craziest thing happened. I ran into a retreat called Discover your true soul self. I really wanted to go but told myself I didn’t need to spend the money and that was silly so I satisfied the idea two months later a good friend of mine messaged me with the same retreat saying we should go already believing in signs and synchronicity. I figured why not maybe I should go so I signed up. At the time I was saving for a salon because I thought my dream was to open a salon so spending the money on the retreat felt like a real bummer but I had the money and I was going to do it on the day of the final payment, which I had. One of my clients came in telling me he had gotten really into meditation and he loved it and I should look into it too. I told him the client before him was talking about meditation as well and suggested an app and I was going to practice meditation because I was going on a retreat called Discover your true soul self where we are going to be meditating multiple times a day. He was so excited about my retreat and the fact that I was going to learn to meditate. He told me I think big things are going to happen for you on this retreat. He said he was curious what a retreat like that cost and I told him never once mentioning that I was a little bit bitter about spending the money. Then he paid for his haircut and left. I got a Venmo notification that he had sent me the amount of money. I said my retreat cost with a note. Go discover your true soul self. This is going to be big.
I was shocked that was the most generous thing in acquaintance had ever done for me. Between the Client encouraging me to get a meditation app and the next client paying for my retreat. I knew this was going to be something that was life-changing. I just had no idea what was going to happen.
The retreat was run by a Medium that I knew of and respected she had blown my mind during a reading. It was the most amazing retreat. I loved every minute of it. I learned so much about myself. The Medium running the retreat offered us all readings so I figured why not go for it. When I sat down for mine, she told me welcome to the club. I had no idea what she was talking about.. she proceeded to tell me that my intuitive gifts were opening up and that I could do what she did and it was going to be a part of my future and part of my career and that when I went home, it was time to take a class and start doing some learning and in a year she would let me know if it was time to seek out a mentor and she would give me recommendations. I was blown away. I told her I didn’t want to be a medium. I was a hairdresser. I didn’t want to do something controversial like that. I just wanted to do normal work. She told me I was opening up whether I wanted to or not, and that I’ve probably already been having experiences and she was correct I had been having some interesting experiences. So I agreed to go home and at the very least read a book and see how I felt about it. As I began to dig in, I could feel that she was right this was a side of myself. I was never willing to look at, but it thrilled and excited me in a way that I couldn’t say no to it, and I jumped into my development to become a medium, which has led to studying to be a grief coach and a spiritual life coach. Don’t get me wrong. I love hairdressing and I’m going to continue to be a hairdresser, but the impact I can make when I connect someone to their loved one in spirit and deliver messages. There are no words for it. It is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done. In the next couple of weeks, I will be a certified coach and I can take that work to the next level. I’m so excited.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride there have been challenges around every corner Mediumship development is not for the faint of heart. First, there’s the judgment. When I knew this was going to be part of my career I knew I couldn’t hide so I announced to all of my hairdressing clients what I was studying and that I was about to go public and add another area to my business. 90% of my clients have been extremely supportive in a few have even experienced readings with me. The other 10% were not nice. I got really mean texts telling me that I was going to go to hell and that they could not associate with somebody like me. I had a client that hugged me and cried and wished that she could change my mind and that she would pray for me every day. I respect them though. We all need to be strong in our beliefs, and I respected these women and knew it wasn’t me. It was their beliefs. That made me stronger, which I know I need on this journey.
Also, Mediumship development is difficult. Everything is in your own voice in your own head and you feel like you’re making it up so it takes persistence to become confident in what you are receiving from spirit and what is your own brain trying to help you out. It has also involved failure on a very public level in practice sessions. And let me tell you you have to fail a lot to get really good and it is embarrassing. It has been worth it though. I’m showing up for my clients and they are getting what they need for my readings and that is all that matters. I also have the most interesting conversations as a hairdresser with my hair clients.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my hairdressing business, I specialize in dimensional, reds and brunettes, along with customized gray coverage. It is important to me to give a soulful and authentic experience that makes my clients feel seen and heard. I want my clients to feel beautiful just as they are and simply enhance their beauty and help the outside look like how they feel on the inside.

In my mediumship business I specialize in helping people with grief. I will soon offer grief, coaching, and life coaching, and I also want to teach people how to live an intuitive life. I want to take the woo hoo out of mediumship. I want to take the mystery out of it and help people realize that we are all intuitive and we all have the ability to connect, not only with our own loved ones in spirit, but also an internal guidance system that can really help lead us in our lives. My sessions are down to earth and provide comfort and clarity.
I offer Mediumship readings where I connect with loved ones in spirit. Intuitive card readings that help people on their path. Soon I will begin teaching intuitive development for the people that want to live a more soul at life, grief and life, coaching, grief circles, and I am starting a podcast about living in intuitive life and working through grief. That podcast will be called The Clearly Connected podcast.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
