Exploring Life & Business with Kate Barnett of Dark Entries Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Barnett.

Hi Kate , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve had a passion for interior design since I was a child, having made elaborate LEGO houses and meticulously decorating my Barbie Dream House. Around 10years old I started playing The Sims, and again obsessed over making houses. These creative interests also included more fine art skills and knowledge as well. Having gone to a Charter school for the arts and a private school for interior design, my education was a bit more unorthodox. Pared with general work experience, I started my virtual interior design studio, Dark Entries Design, with the same childhood dream. It’s been quite an experience helping people create a home they love purely online.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a very hilly road! I’m a very introverted, shy person and even with a business model that is only online you still have to get in front of people. This has been the most difficult part, the internet is a vast place and finding your people can be tricky. I’m always open to conversations and collaborations and some have been a lot of fun. While others have been a lesson.

We’ve been impressed with Dark Entries Design , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started doing virtual interior design services because I wanted to be accessible and cost-effective. I sincerely believe everyone should love and express themselves in their home. From personal shopping to full room design there’s a service for everyone that can help bring your sense of self into your space!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s ok if a prospect doesn’t choose to move forward with a project. Learning that saying no and being told no is a natual part of the process. Can’t please everyone.
