Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Donovan.
Hi Katie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Prior to CAMP Digital, I was working alongside my brother at his company, Dealer Teamwork, where we focused on helping automotive dealerships succeed digitally. In 2018, our team was recognized by Google as one of the top agencies for mobile innovation.
At that event, a conversation with the Google Head of Agency changed everything. He challenged me to look beyond automotive and consider home services. That idea led to an introduction to another Google Head of Industry, and a realization that the home services industry (plumbers, electricians, HVAC companies) was dramatically underserved by digital marketing that actually understood their businesses.
That conversation planted the seed for what would become CAMP Digital. Six and a half years later, that seed has grown into a company dedicated to helping home service businesses grow sustainably, not just aggressively.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our official launch came in September 2019 – just months before the world shut down from Covid.
Ironically, while so many businesses were struggling, the home services industry was deemed essential and demand surged. We found ourselves growing rapidly in the midst of constant uncertainty: changing regulations, remote work becoming the norm overnight, and an industry evolving at breakneck speed.
The biggest challenge wasn’t double-digit growth itself – it was growing CAMP responsibly. Hiring quickly while protecting culture. Supporting clients under pressure. Making smart decisions without perfect information. Add in the accelerating pace of digital marketing and now generative AI, and it’s been a constant lesson in adaptability and leadership.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At CAMP Digital, we provide digital marketing solutions exclusively for home service companies – HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and pool & spa – across the U.S. and Canada.
Our mission is simple: help our clients grow in a way that actually works in the real world. That means keeping their call boards full, technicians busy, and marketing aligned with operational reality.
What sets us apart is how closely we connect marketing performance to what’s happening inside a business. Using our own technology and integrations with platforms like ServiceTitan, we adjust marketing efforts based on technician capacity. When teams are booked out, we pull back ad spend and digital presence. When there’s room to grow, we push.
This approach helps our clients scale efficiently without wasting budget. Today, we’re proud to partner with more than 350 growth-minded home service companies – and even prouder of the trust they place in us.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I had a wonderful childhood growing up in Chaska, Minnesota, on Lake Bavaria. But my favorite part of that story is that my husband and I were able to purchase my childhood home and raise our kids there – while my parents built a house next door.
Watching my children create memories in the same places I did, with their grandparents close by, is priceless! It’s a reminder of how important home, family, and community are – and why helping businesses that serve homes feels so personal to me.
