Exploring Life & Business with Makayla Anderson of Nutrition Spot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Anderson.

Hi Makayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey really started back in high school as an athlete. I was introduced to Herbalife just as a way to feel better and perform better on game days, but at the time I didn’t fully see the bigger picture. After graduating, I worked in a nutrition club part-time, but it took a few years—and going through my own personal struggles—for everything to really click.

Becoming a mom was a huge turning point for me. I knew I wanted more—more time freedom, more financial stability, and a better future for my son. I had also gone through my own transformation, losing over 70 pounds, which gave me the confidence and credibility to start helping others.

I took a big risk stepping into this business full-time and eventually opened my own nutrition club, Nutrition Spot, in Sauk Rapids. Since opening, I’ve been able to build a community, help people feel better physically and mentally, and create a space that brings people together.

Today, I’m focused on continuing to grow my business, helping more people transform their lives, and building a team of individuals who want more out of life. This journey has pushed me in ways I never expected, and I’m grateful for how much I’ve grown both personally and professionally.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was truly believing in myself and taking the risk to go all in. For a long time, I saw the opportunity in front of me but didn’t fully step into it out of fear and uncertainty.

Becoming a single mom added another layer of pressure. Balancing building a business while raising my son hasn’t always been easy, especially during tough seasons when he’s sick or when I’ve felt stretched thin trying to do it all. There’s also a lot behind the scenes that people don’t see—long hours, financial risks, and learning everything as I go.

I’ve also faced challenges with consistency and growth in the beginning, figuring out what works, building a customer base, and developing leadership skills while growing a team. Not everyone understands this path either, which can feel isolating at times.

But every obstacle has forced me to grow. It’s taught me discipline, resilience, and how to keep showing up even when it’s hard. Looking back, those challenges are exactly what shaped me into the person and business owner I am today.

We’ve been impressed with Nutrition Spot, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nutrition Spot is a community-based nutrition club located in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. We specialize in high-protein shakes, energy teas, and overall wellness coaching designed to help people feel better, have more energy, and build sustainable, healthy habits.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just a place to grab a drink—we’re a place where people come for support, accountability, and community. We work closely with our clients through things like 21-day challenges, personalized guidance, and ongoing coaching to help them reach their goals, whether that’s weight loss, muscle gain, or simply feeling better day-to-day.

One thing I’m especially proud of is the environment we’ve created. Nutrition Spot is a space where everyone feels welcome, encouraged, and seen. It’s not just about the products—it’s about the relationships, the energy, and helping people grow both physically and mentally.

We also offer options for people to stay consistent outside of the club, including at-home product programs, meal guidance, and accountability systems that fit into real, busy lives.

At the end of the day, our mission is simple: to help people become the best version of themselves while building a positive, uplifting community around them.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is watching my dad own and run his own business. I didn’t fully understand it at the time, but I remember seeing his work ethic, the freedom he had, and the pride he took in building something of his own. It showed me early on what was possible and planted a seed in me that I could create my own path one day.

Looking back now, that had a huge impact on me. It gave me a vision for wanting more out of life and helped shape the mindset I have today as a business owner.
