Exploring Life & Business with Mary Sullivan of Bodywork Harmonics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Sullivan.

Mary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist practicing massage since 1998.

I graduated from the Aveda Institute and I am currently an Adjunct Massage Instructor at the Institute. I have also taught an Indian Head Massage course at Centerpoint Massage School.

Soon after I completed my training at Aveda, I moved to Algarve, Portugal where I worked in a four star resort day spa. This gave me the opportunity to refine my skills in massage by attending trainings in Indian Head Massage and Lymphatic Drainage massage. As I continued to work on peoples’ bodies, my interest in energy work began to deepen. I studied Reiki at Quinta da Calma in the Algarve and took my 3 levels of attunements to become a Reiki Master.

I began my study of Thai massage at Wat Po in Bangkok and have continued my study in Minneapolis to deepen my understanding of the Thai philosophy and techniques. At the Nosara Yoga Institute, I studied Pranassage, which is an amazing fusion of movement with breath to bring heightened body awareness to the recipient. It compliments Thai massage beautifully with it’s nurturing intention. I love the ability to do more than table massage alone. Learning floor work has allowed me to go beyond what I thought possible in bodywork and has helped me to develop my own personal creative flow.

I have had the privilege of working with a varied clientele from newborns to children, pre and postpartum woman, professional athletes to hospice patients.

My repertoire enables me to tailor the experience to the individual I am working with to relieve discomfort and gain relaxation. The mechanics of the human body fascinate me and I am continually amazed at its ability to heal.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
