Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Meyers.
Hi Mason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Minneapolis in 2018 from Waterloo, IA to pursue a degree in audio engineering at the now defunct Institute of Production and Recording(IPR). After graduation I immediately started a job as an admissions representative at the school with the long term goal of teaching classes and utilizing the institution’s recording studios for personal clients and projects. In November 2021 the school shut down and I was laid off. I began working freelance at Minnehaha Recording Company, but kept in contact with the lab staff at IPR. It just so happened that my good friend and now business partner, Jason Andriano, had recently moved up to the Twin Cities and we made three separate bulk gear purchases from IPR with the short term goal of parting out the gear and selling it for profit. As we were amassing the recording equipment we began brainstorming what it would take to start our own recording studio, and how we could differentiate ourselves from the dozens of other studios in the greater Twin Cities area. We landed on integrating a video system into each recording space so we could capture audio and video of sessions simultaneously and market a multimedia experience. We found our space in July of 2023, and began building out the space in January of 2024. We ran our first session on October and now we are steadily booked into June 2025.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the road has been fairly smooth, Jason and I are both pretty meticulous when it comes to creating a plan and troubleshooting. There were a couple snags and hold ups along the way, but in general we were able to more or less keep to the initial game plan. We ended up opening two months later than we anticipated, but in the grand scheme of things that’s pretty close to hitting the mark!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
First and foremost we are a professional audio recording studio offering tracking, editing, mixing, and mastering services. With the integration of video we are also able to offer specialized and ala carte options such as live in studio video recordings, live streams, podcasts, and music videos.
My favorite service we provide is a live in studio performance with a live studio audience. The bands who participate record a live 45 minute set for twenty audience members who have seats inside the live room. Each audience member receives a pair of headphones and will hear the live mix in real time while the band is recording. This event especially is a unique and intimate experience for the audience, especially for non musicians.
We also do monthly songwriter rounds, vinyl nights, and other fun events!
Additional services provided by in house engineers:
Logan Korus: Beat production, voiceover, podcasting, hiphop/vocal tracking, basically anything that involved 1-2 mics
Kevin Feidt: Mastering with digital, CD, an vinyl deliverable capabilities
Ray Bell: Post production for film including mixing, ADR, foley, sound design
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Jason Andriano is co owner of Greenway Recording. He and I refined the concept together and did a good majority of the labor required to build out and vibe out the space.
Gram Peterson is a videographer and photographer who I work closely with for a lot of the content we curate. He has an eye for detail and edits together amazing reels.
Braden Williams assists with videography and long form video editing. He often provides lighting and additional cameras for sessions.
Nathan Louiselle was paramount to conceptualizing and building out the integrated video system we have in every room. He ran every video cable and set up our machine room. He also helps with live streaming and audio production.
Kevin Feidt is a mastering engineer who works out of our studio B. He was one of the first people I brought to the space after we got it, and he also helped out a ton while we were building all of the acoustic treatment.
Logan Korus works out of our studio A, and he helped bring together our main control room. He provided some key pieces of gear and acoustic treatment that help to make the room and exceptional place to work.
Ray Bell also works out of our studio B, and he helped us get the space put together in the home stretch. He also helps keep the studio comfortable for clients and assists with feng shui
Dave Ahl designed the space and helped us map out the wall and acoustic treatment placement
