Hi Nila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up with a blend of Eastern and Western cultures, I always had a passion for Indian ethnic wear. I loved watching Bollywood movies and was inspired by the beautiful clothing worn by the actors and actresses. Fashion became a way for me to stay connected to my heritage while living in the United States.

Before starting ShopBollyWear, I owned a South Asian wedding planning business. Through that experience, I saw firsthand how important fashion was to weddings and cultural celebrations. Many of my clients wanted stylish, authentic Indian outfits, but finding them in the United States was often difficult. For years, many Indian Americans relied on trips to India or family members traveling abroad to bring back clothing for weddings and special occasions.

Seeing that need inspired me to create ShopBollyWear in 2016. My goal was simple: make beautiful Indian ethnic wear easily accessible to customers across the United States through an online boutique. What started as a small business has grown into a trusted destination for Indian fashion, serving customers for weddings, festivals, parties, and other special events.

Like many entrepreneurs, the journey has not always been easy. Balancing a career, family responsibilities, and growing a business required countless late nights, hard work, and perseverance. Thankfully, I had tremendous support from my family and friends, who encouraged me through the challenges.

Today, nearly a decade later, I am proud that ShopBollyWear continues to serve customers across the country and worldwide. Looking back, I never imagined the business would grow the way it has, but every challenge has been a learning experience. The most rewarding part has been helping people celebrate life’s special moments while staying connected to their culture and traditions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been finding the right work-life balance. Like many working women, I was juggling a full-time career, family responsibilities, and my desire to build something of my own. Starting ShopBollyWear required countless hours, late nights, and plenty of sacrifices. There were many moments when I felt exhausted and wondered if I could keep going.

What helped me through those difficult times was having an incredible support system. My family and friends believed in me, encouraged me, and reminded me why I started in the first place. Their support made all the difference.

Every step of this journey has been a learning experience. There are always challenges, even today, but I’ve learned that persistence is often the difference between giving up and succeeding. I truly believe that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You have to keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow, and trust that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

My advice to anyone pursuing a dream is simple: don’t stop. Keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in yourself. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but when you’re passionate about what you’re doing, that passion will carry you through the toughest days and help you achieve your goals.

ShopBollyWear is a Minnesota-based online boutique specializing in Indian ethnic wear for women, men, and children. Our goal is to make beautiful Indian fashion accessible to customers across the United States without the need to travel overseas.

What sets us apart is our personalized approach to customer service. That is why we place such a strong emphasis on personalized service, helping customers with sizing, styling, and selecting the perfect outfit for their occasion. Nothing is more rewarding than receiving photos from happy customers or hearing how much they loved their experience with us.
