Exploring Life & Business with Nina Boswell of Cashmere Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Boswell.

Hi Nina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I’ve always had an interest in beauty. I remember starting with my favorite aunt at a young age, before I started grade school, she would let me do her makeup and hair. I would put huge burnt curls on top of her head with a jumbo curling iron and pack on blue eyeshadow up to her brows and she would wear it out while she took me to the store! But that wasn’t my only experience. Having seven sisters, I had a ton of practice.

From there, I sort of became the designated stylist where ever I went, with Friends, family, and the neighborhood. I grew up very diverse having mostly been raised in the foster care system so I knew what styles and products worked for what hair and what didn’t. It wasn’t until after about 5/6 years at my first job as a manager in the medical field that I decided I wanted to go to cosmetology school to make a career in the beauty industry.

I always have had a passion for helping others and uplifting them when it comes to their selves whether, feelings, appearance, attitude, or overall well-being and I learned that that was still achievable outside of the healthcare field. Beauty services were always something that stuck with me as it was always something I did on the side out of my home so it only made sense.

After graduating, I started at a waxing facility which was something I hadn’t even thought of before beauty school. Although I enjoyed the work, that’s all it was, work! My dream was to always have something of my own, something fulfilling! That’s when I started my search for spaces and after receiving a late-night email amid COVID about a crazy affordable rental space at a location with high demand, I knew my dream was becoming reality! So I took a crazy leap of faith and jumped into it. Now it’s not ever work, it’s a passion!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, in the beginning, I was a tad bit frantic. Sometimes the mind can work against you. I was thinking things like, “what if my clients don’t follow me.. what if I don’t get any business. lose my investment. what if I FAIL!?” But after my first week, my fears were knocked out of my mind by my accomplishments. I just had to sit and reflect and take my advice on how things will always work out if you want them to.

I reminded myself and still do, that even 3 clients in 1 day are a win because they are clients booking to be serviced specifically by me! Just remember that your first year may not be super profitable and that is ok. Keep going. Don’t get me wrong just like many other service industries, there are peak seasons and slow seasons. During my first spring break on my own, I was a little overwhelmed by having back-to-back clients and not blocking out time for breaks.

Before being on my own, I could have a coworker take a client for me if I was running behind with another but with it just being me I was overwhelmed. I even thought some of my clients wouldn’t rebook. But again, sometimes the mind can work against you because I have yet to experience that. I also have so much support around me at my studio from like-minded individuals. Beautiful people who experience the same things I do and have similar passions as me and enjoy uplifting others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Cashmere Beauty’s first anniversary was Nov. 1, 2022! I began by offering Full-Body Waxing, Brow and Lash Tinting, and Lash Lift services. Then I added Brow Laminations as it became highly requested. I will be adding Hair Braiding services to my site for bookings shortly as there has been a high demand to start offering that at my studio.

My top 3 services currently include Full Brazilian, and Brow Shaping with a close tie between Lash Lift and Brow Lamination! Cashmere Beauty is mostly known for Brows which is my favorite service! But as of late my specialty in Hair Braiding is gaining a lot of attention and inquiries.

I am most proud of the comfort and trust my clients put into me and knowing that I give my all to making every one of them leave happy having had a great and relaxing experience. New to waxing or any other services, that’s completely fine! I enjoy walking my clients through my processes, answering as many or as few questions as they may have, and making them feel as comfortable as possible. And most importantly, making sure that the services I provide meet or exceed your expectations!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is the array of amenities and the desire to keep things clean and beautiful. I like that Woodbury has so much to offer. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. What I like least is how long the blocks are. It takes forever to get to the next street haha!
