Exploring Life & Business with Soua Vang of Seek Sonders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soua Vang

Hi Soua, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been creating videos since I was a kid. I still remember when my dad got a family camcorder—it quickly became mine, haha. From that point on, I started making videos throughout middle school and high school. There were two pivotal moments when I realized I wanted to pursue video production as a career.

The first was when I watched an old YouTube parody of the movie 300 by Lisa Nova. The second, and more defining moment, was when I discovered FreddieW on YouTube in the early 2010s. His action-packed videos completely changed my perspective on filmmaking. I was captivated by his style and immediately wanted to create videos just like his. During high school, I mirrored his work, experimenting with action sequences and storytelling. But once I started college, I stopped creating videos.

It wasn’t until I came across travel creators on YouTube that my passion reignited. Watching them made me think, If they can do it, why not me? That question motivated me to take the leap and pursue a career in video production after college. The journey wasn’t easy—I faced countless challenges and made plenty of mistakes. But each setback taught me valuable lessons and shaped me into the filmmaker I am today.

These days, my focus has shifted from travel content to commercial brand work. Don’t get me wrong—I still love travel creating, but I’ve discovered that commercial films bring me the most fulfillment. Despite the missteps and moments I wish I could redo, I don’t regret any part of this journey. Every experience has built my character and defined my path as a film director.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I mentioned before, this journey has taught me so much. In the beginning, I wanted to do everything. This curiosity allowed me to explore different avenues of video creation, experiment with my style, and discover what I was good at and, more importantly, what I truly enjoyed doing.

From a business perspective, most of my learning came from trial and error. I’ve celebrated successes and faced my fair share of failures. I’ve built strong, lasting relationships with some clients, while other promising brand conversations led to nothing. Each experience, whether positive or negative, taught me valuable lessons and contributed to my growth.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was being in a place that lacked a creative community. I was in a city where not many people did what I did, making it difficult to find and connect with others who shared my ambitions. It wasn’t about feeling like I was the best around—far from it. It was about missing the sense of community and collaboration that comes from connecting with like-minded creatives. I often had to look beyond my city limits to find that connection and inspiration.

I remember starting out by shooting videos on my iPhone. Upgrading my gear took time and patience. Alongside the technical challenges, I also faced imposter syndrome. It hit me hardest when I’d land a project and question myself, Am I really good enough to do this? But I learned to push through those doubts and just get the job done.

People don’t often talk about the failures, but they’re an essential part of the journey. It’s through these setbacks that we learn and grow. It’s all part of the process, and I’ve come to realize that it’s not about avoiding failure but about how you learn and evolve from it.

We’ve been impressed with Seek Sonders, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Seek Sonders was founded in collaboration with my friend, Peng Yang. We connected through Instagram and quickly realized that we shared the same vision, creativity, and ambition. This mutual understanding inspired us to explore the possibilities of what we could create together.

The name Seek Sonders embodies our mission to seek and share stories. The term Sonders is inspired by the idea that every person you pass has a story as unique as your own. At Seek Sonders, we believe that every brand and business has a story worth telling. Our goal is to uncover and share these narratives with the world, bringing depth and authenticity to each project we undertake.

We specialize in campaign and short-form content, delivering high-level video and photo production to the brands and businesses we collaborate with. Whether it’s creative direction, marketing campaigns, or short-form content, we work closely with our partners to craft a professional and unique style that elevates their brand’s presence.
