Exploring Life & Business with Tom Sega

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Sega.

Tom Sega

Hi Tom, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Graduated college and knew I wanted to be in sales capacities. Got into the pulp and paper industry on the supply side working in sales and sales management roles. Had a fabulous career for 22 years doing that and in the meantime, fell in love with the Duluth Pack brand and became a very good personal customer. I knew that I needed to be a part of the company in some role.

On April 1st, 2007, I became the operating partner of Duluth Pack and have grown the company and brand from a regional business to a global entity with a flagship retail store, worldwide shopped website, and wholesale where we have a global dealer network as well as hundreds of private label corporate customers. After 16+ years, I am just as excited about the brand today as I was then. I cannot wait to see where the company goes from here.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with all businesses, there are obstacles every day.

The biggest of them is manufacturing in the cut and sew industry in the USA. Most of us are aware that that trade went overseas 25+ years ago, thus hiring and training is a daily challenge.

As you know, we’re big fans of Duluth Pack. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Duluth Pack is the oldest canvas and leather bag and pack manufacturer in the United States of America.

All of our 350+ styles of handcrafted outdoor packs, accessories, hunting gear, and premium duffels are guaranteed for life on all craftsmanship and hardware. Duluth Pack has continuously been Made in the USA since 1882.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I believe you create luck by putting in hard work and as a leader of the company surrounding yourself with great people. If I’m lucky with anything, it is good health and an abundance of energy.
