Today we’d like to introduce you to Weston Lehner. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Weston Lehner started in the industry in 2013 and the greatest time of the year was aerification to see how one can dial in the process to get the most out of the agronomy practice as well as being able to have the best heal in the process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our first year was a scramble. I purchased equipment that was pretty well used and not maintained well. Our 34ft trailer blew a hub the first time taking it out to a job. This was significant because the 34ft trailer allowed us to get two tractors with Verti-Drain units out to jobs using one truck. The result of that going down, I would either have to make two trips to each job, or have my partner come down from Wheaton, MN and help transport equipment to a job. After the grind was down, one of our smaller tractors was leaking oil from somewhere under neither the tractor. I brought the tractor into the shop to have them fix it. They had the tractor for almost 2 months because they had to separate the tractor in two to try and pinpoint the leak and get it fixed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Midwest Deep Tine as of right now has two full-time crew members. Weston Lehner who is the owner, has been working in the Golf industry since 2013. Weston is a person that thinks of others before himself. Weston Has worked for 3 prestige courses in his 9 years in the industry. He is a perfectionist when it comes to the quality work out on jobs. It doesn’t matter if the superintendent is happy with the hole quality and spacing. If the quality is not what he knows it can be, he will adjust to make it perfect.
As we continue to do business we are striving to complete jobs quickly and efferently. This is what sets us apart from the competition. With the new equipment purchased last year. We have the ability to do the work of 2 tractors with one unit. The unit alone can do an 18 hole course in three to four hours. When we had another tractor in the mix, that time only gets faster.
I am most proud of MDT because we strive to make each client feel like they are our only client. We strive to meet and get to know each superintendent that we do work for. If we don’t know them already. We know we are new to the industry and that we are going make mistakes. With that being said, we make it known that we will correct that mistake in any way we can. Ask any of our clients, and they will attest to that.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Our service is something that every course or ball field needs. For courses and school districts to purchase, maintain and operate this equipment can be very costly. Our service eliminates the headache of all of that. On top of that, we will complete a job a lot faster because that is our specialty. With that being said, I think that once our name gets out there we can grow fairly quick. But, we will always make it a point to keep a personal customer service.
