Hanna Defoe of Minneapolis on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Hanna Defoe shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Hanna, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Our dogs!! We have 4 fur babies that are basically my children haha. We have 2 beagles and 2 jack russell terriers and they are truly the light of our lives!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Hanna, owner of Hanna Marie Events which is a wedding planning + content creation business! My team offers coordination, planning and content creation services. We’ve been in business for over 4 years now and have a team of 15 assistant + lead coordinators!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Dad. He’s always been one to know people very well, and to see what they have in them before they can see it themselves. He retired almost a year ago now and has been so helpful with my business and seeing the potential!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being good enough. Even with all the milestones I’ve hit with the business, I still compare myself to others who are much more successful and wish how I could be where they are at. But, I also have to remember that those people are years ahead of me and I don’t see what goes on outside of social media! “Comparison is the thief of joy” is a quote I often remember. Myself 4 years ago would be in absolute disbelief of where I’m at today.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My loved ones. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for my friends & family that mean the most to me! I care so much about those in my life including my clients.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do, truly. I have loved everything planning and parties since I was a little girl. To be able to say I am doing what I love is such a gift and I’ll never take it for granted!
