Hidden Gems: Meet Amy Byrne of Rent House LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Byrne

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began looking at real estate at a young age. Open house tours on the weekends, for example, were a regular occurrence for my family and I. It was “love at first sight” touring the unique properties here and seeing how much a home can impact your lifestyle. From lakeshore property on busier lakes to isolated cabins with serenity. I love to see all that Minnesota has to offer with the unique options builders and homeowners come up with to maximize different lifestyle choices.

After graduating from law school, it only made sense to purchase a property. As a broke recent college graduate, I was able to purchase a property with a few thousand down. From there, I had friends live with me and share common spaces in the home. Soon thereafter, I took a look online to see if there are others out there that would like to live in my single family home and enjoy the benefits the come with homeownership, without the financial liability. I had great interest from others online and soon thereafter I began offering month to month leases to others.

I now have a company, Rent House LLC, that aims to address the need for flexible, more affordable housing options in a variety of neighborhoods.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My properties have been smooth sailing so far. My legal background is in real estate law. While certain maintenance issues are unavoidable, I credit my legal expertise for avoiding the avoidable. Staying in compliance with state and federal law, for example, is a key focus area for my work. It can be a challenge navigating rooms for rent. Especially when room rentals are an untraditional rental area in contrast to Airbnb or renting an entire home. Considering the incredibly kind reviews I receive from residents, I hope to continue to be a landlord for so long as the market desires.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Rent House LLC, is a women-owned company. I love that the business helps foster a sense of community among residents. On occasion, I host outings to provide an opportunity for the residents to get to know each other outside of their living space. Last year, for example, we had a fun pool party at my other home. We had my friends and resident friends welcome to join. It was a great opportunity to meet others which can otherwise be a challenge when living in the suburbs away from big city-events.

Full time, I work at a law firm in the area of real estate law. I offer advisement to businesses, Associations, property managers and individuals.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
