Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Dubay.
Hi Andrea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a kid that was crazy about dogs. I spent a lot of time observing them, watching training sessions at a local obedience center, and experimenting with my own dogs. My passion sent me into the field of veterinary medicine, where I worked as a veterinary technician for 16 years in four different states. Now I spend 4-5 days a week training dogs and people and training and showing my own dogs whenever the chance presents itself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is not a straight line to success. There are always going to be bumps in the road and challenges that present themselves in all kinds of ways. You need a great team so you can focus on your business. For me, as a dog trainer, I need to focus on training dogs and people. I have a great team that helps me with everything else, literally, everything else. I couldn’t do this without them. Many business owners think they need to know everything, but that’s impossible. So my advice is to surround yourself with people you truly enjoy, and know all the things you don’t. Most importantly, be humble enough to say you don’t know and ask for help. It will save you a lot of time, money and future embarrassment.

Monticello Dog Academy is an innovative dog training center near the Twin Cities in Minnesota. We offer a wide variety of dog training classes including Puppy Kindergarten, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Obedience, Canine Good Citizen, Scent Work, Therapy Dog, Agility, Trick Dog, Dog Modeling and more. We specialize in bringing humans into the training process by teaching them to understand how their dogs learn and process their environments. This helps people communicate more effectively with their furry friends. We are very proud of everything we offer, but mostly that people who come to us to train, find it so rewarding, that they take it to the next level. People who never had any inclination to show their dogs, or earn AKC titles, are having so much fun, before they know it, they are having the most wonderful adventures with their dogs! For us, watching the effect our students have on the community as Therapy Dogs, Trick Dogs, Good Citizens and Dog Models for major corporations, or great family pets that can go anywhere, brings us so much joy.

We are currently trying to buy our own training center that would be larger than where we are currently renting. This would allow us to expand our services and host fun dog based events.
