Hidden Gems: Meet Arvind Mozumdar of CDO On-Demand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arvind Mozumdar.

Hi Arvind, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in India and grew up both there and in the Middle East. My family moved around quite a bit when I was very young, so adapting to new places always came naturally to me. Eventually, I went to college just outside my hometown. After graduating, I moved around a lot in India with different jobs. I ended up living in the UK for a short while and finally landed in Chicago about 20 years ago, in 2006. I moved to Minnesota in 2009, and it has been home since then.

When I graduated, I had a degree in statistics(I know, very exciting). Eventually, I started a professional career that mostly involved working with large corporations, helping them improve their business functions using data and technology. A couple of years ago, the consulting company I was working for got acquired by a bigger firm. Through re-orgs, I found myself trying to go independent. After a few transitional months, I founded CDO On Demand in April 2025. The objective was to use my skills and experience acquired over 25 years to help much smaller companies scale up. Currently, there’s a lot of hype around AI and some real value too. In my professional life, I help small and medium companies navigate the complexities of these emerging technologies.

Outside of work, my family is obviously very important to me. We love to travel a lot. My personal hobby that has stayed with me since childhood is soccer (or football, as I grew up calling it). We are season ticket holders and big supporters of our local teams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I never expect long journeys to be smooth or linear. Sometimes the joy of the outcome lies in the strength, resilience, and creativity we demonstrate along the way.

In my professional career, there have been several times when I have had to navigate challenges with teams, transitions, and fluctuations in the economy. After first starting out as an independent service provider, I was optimistic but not over-confident, and I felt very grateful when I landed paying clients. I have seen other businesses have a bumpier start than I have had, and wherever possible I have tried to help and support.

Through moving to different places throughout my life, I have always embraced change and uncertainty, but having a lot of rich experiences along the way. As I get older, I more enjoy when things are in my control than not, but that doesn’t change the lessons learned from the past, even when things have been turbulent.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
CDO On-Demand supports small and medium businesses navigate the challenges of AI (Artificial Intelligence), Data, and Technology. We help build custom solutions that can be quickly adopted by teams to grow and operate efficiently.

What I like to emphasize is that through my education and experience, I have been exposed to multiple generations of what is now broadly called AI, and I have both the technical knowledge and practical experience to cut through the hype.

As an organization, we are focused on being responsible by design, so we advocate for responsible and sustainable use of AI and any technology. We focus on enhancing the human experience, and we don’t mean that as a marketing platitude.

What matters most to you?
The answer to this question has changed for me over the years, but I think the overall motivating factor for me always has been that whatever legacy I leave behind, people always recall that I did the right thing, or tried to do the right thing.

As I get older, and I see my child grow, I think leaving a world behind that is in good shape feels more and more important. So I focus a lot on responsibility and sustainability.

I try to think of sustainability in broad terms, essentially what allows us to keep doing what we want to be doing. A lot of times, the answers are not easy.
