Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Radel.
Hi Britney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was first introduced to Herbs and Crystals as a new and different way of healing in the early months of 2019 after going through some trauma and health concerns in my 20’s. What led me to look into this path was searching for natural ways to help my body overcome these issues and also helping others overcome their obstacles as well.
Once I started to gain more knowledge of how to use these tools to help myself, I began to think about the different possibilities and benefits of opening my own business. I have always dreamed of having my own company, and I finally had a vision coming to life before I knew it!
I started simple; it took some time to look into all of the Herbs, but I figured that I would start with that. I began to write everything down that I knew about each Herb and started to create my own tea recipes that I now sell.
I did the same thing with Crystals. I used different books, websites and testimonies to gain knowledge about just how versatile rocks and gems can be. I was blown away by all of the facts I was learning! Finding out where to get all of the product to sell was hard because I had not previously been a part of that community, however I joined some groups online and began to order products and attend trade shoes locally and nationwide.
I didn’t stop there! I looked into other products that I could possibly carry that don’t contain chemicals; and I came up with the idea to start making my own bath salts and acne treatments. This was a great idea for me because I could help people of all ages and it hit home because I have a teenager with acne issues and also struggled with that myself.
I began to create a website (which I’d never done before). It was a learning curve for sure but I really wanted to make it something that I was proud of and that was my motivation.
When my website was completed, I then had to learn all of the legal steps that needed to be taken to open up a legit business. That is when I started to file things with the state- and Bam! It was complete.
My final rollout was to tell my friends and family about my business and trust the word-of-mouth process. I am still doing a lot of that; however I have also gained a lot of customers just through having social media.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been smooth, but it hasn’t always been that way!
Before I started this business, one of my friends approached me because she wanted to do this idea together. I was on board! We started a different business. It didn’t last long because we lived far apart and the responsibilities stared to weigh on both of us. Being new business owners, we were not prepared for the strain financially.
From my understanding, she had some difficulties that I tried to help her work through, but ultimately it started to hurt the business and our friendship.
She eventually came to me about wanting to dissolve the company. I was absolutely devastated because it was still so new and I thought that we could look past differences and continue to work together. I was wrong, so I cut my losses and had to start from scratch, individually.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is known for the wonderful quality Crystals that I sell, as well as the 100% Organic Herbal Teas and Bath Salts that I make from scratch. I attend vendor events in the Minneapolis area where you can find all of my wonderful products, as well as my website.
What sets me apart from others is definitely the quality of my goods and my awesome customer service. All of my Crystals are imported from different ethically mined areas. All of my Teas and products are made with Organic, fresh ingredients so you can be stress-free in not having to wonder if what you are putting into your body is good for you or not.
I am very proud of the “little things” that I do to make sure that my brand stands out. The little details in every package that make you feel thought of and loved. I always through in personalized business cards, extra stickers, free samples and extra gifts so you can ALWAYS expect a surprise! I love being able to reach out to my customers and ask them what they enjoy!
What I can tell you is that I am the only person looking at your order, so you will never have to worry about miscommunication throughout my company. I am proactive on my responses and never will leave an email unanswered or a problem unresolved.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is traveling the USA with my Dad and camping at various locations. It was always so wonderful to see what surprises nature had for you at all different types of places and states. Seeing things like Mt. Rushmore or Yellowstone, learning about different animals all kept me feeling so alive!
