Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Amundson.
Hi Candice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Winona MN and started a career in Veterinary Medicine after college. I have always been a huge part of my community and did my first mission trip to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 for 7 days to rescue animals. After 20 years in Vet Med I decided to start my own business. In 2018 I was attacked by an intimate partner and he did receive a felony strangulation charge. In 2019 I took back my life as a single mom and started my business as a Realtor in Minneapolis MN. In 2024 my son was 12 years old and had a stroke after an injury. We learned about a genetic disease with his vessels and a brain aneurysm. This ended his football career. During those days in the hospital I started my own hospitality consulting business. I created a system to edit financials, business basics like LLC and partners, insurance/tax, and then strategies that will increase revenue, decrease expenses, and shelter tax. My consulting business has taken off and I did fly to Florida in May 2026 to consult on 2 properties. I want to continue expanding my consulting and sell real estate with investors in Minnesota. Today my son is 15 years old and has only minor permanent conditions and we focus on having experiences and traveling. This has only enriched my passion for the world of hospitality and gives me examples that build my intellectual property. I have created a hybrid model that includes hourly rentals, subscriptions, nightly rentals, mid-term rentals, and commercial spaces.
I have also received many nominations, awards, and grants in my community for the work I’ve done with our local domestic violence shelter in Blaine MN (Alexandra House). 2025 & 2026 Good Neighbor Award, 2026 Notable Nonprofit Board Member, 2026 Super Agent. I created the first of its kind shelter where people and pets can come to the emergency shelter TOGETHER! It was named after my dog Linus (Linus’ Pet Haven). This initiative has also inspired other shelters in our community like the homeless shelter Stepping Stone. In April 2025 I became board of directors and have helped the organization raise over $500,000 in the last year from this emergency shelter program. I have also been recognized nationally for this work and spoke on panels with Purina, NOVA, and Domesticshelters.org. I’ve been a guest on over 7 podcasts. I plan to help other states and shelters convert to pet-friendly onsite.
In short I would say I’m a single mompreneur with 2 businesses in real estate, and a philanthropist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have faced a lot of adversity and challenges. After many years I have become thankful for those experiences because they have happened for me to become the person I am today and to help those people behind me that I once used to be. Having a major medical scare with my child and feeling alone was a huge motivator. I have leaned on God a lot.
We’ve been impressed with Realtor | Resort & Second Property Specialist, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am brokered by JPW Realty on the Pomerleau Team located in Maple Grove MN. I have been a Realtor since 2019 and consulting on Airbnb/hotels/Bed&Breakfast since 2024. With my real estate license I help investors and homeowners buy and sell real estate in Minnesota. I subscribe to data tools to help run proformas and help investors make clear financial decisions. I am unique in my area because I specialize in short-term rentals, mid-term rentals, and hospitality businesses which many Realtors don’t want to learn zoning/regulations or create a team to provide resources to run the business. I also use a lot of video messages or voice messages to stand out in my community. I’m very well known for my communication style and I often win in multiple offers for my clients, negotiate more money and better terms for my clients, and have a good reputation. Many agents will want to work with me. I do collaborate with agents and partners in my community to teach classes on real estate and showcase other businesses in our market.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me health, financial freedom, gratitude and ability to keep learning and growing. Doing 1% better every day and doing the things I set out to accomplish. Making my bed, saying gratitude, praying, exercise, drinking H20 and making good food choices. Give people grace and slow down. Helping the community and removing barriers to allow people more resources. Using my skills and resources to make change. Remembering how I do anything is how I do everything!
