Hidden Gems: Meet David Anderson of TaDa! Gadget Repair

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Anderson.

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Run from their home in Rochester, Minnesota, Tada! Gadget Repair is owned and operated by David Anderson and his wife, Terry.

In 2012, I repaired my first phone after the screen began to malfunction. Now, after over thousands of phones, tablets, i-pods, computer and camera screens, Tada! Gadget Repair provides a reliable repair service for a wide range of problems and devices.

In 2013, I had to start being home as my wife’s caregiver, as she has MS and her disability had gotten to the point where she needed someone there in the day. So that was when it was decided to start the business full time, out of the home as I could be available when my wife needed help with something. We named the business TaDa! Gadget Repair. Tada stands for Terry and David Anderson.

Run from my home workshop in Rochester, Minnesota, I am able to individually consult with each customer. I work to create a plan of action that works for their specific situation, helping them avoid contracts from large companies. By offering a personalized solution, I am able to maintain quality service and competitive pricing.

I am also a cancer survivor. In 2008, I was diagnosed with non-Hotchkins lymphoma. As I was going through it, I wrote and recorded songs and put them together on a CD titled: “Seasons of Hope”. In 2012 I re-recorded the CD and had it glass mastered and added a booklet with my story and the words. Since 2012 we have given over 11,000 CD’s away to encourage people going through hard times in their lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My wife’s disability continues to worsen, but God has given the strength needed to continue to have her home and I continue to care for her as well as help customers with their needs. At first when I started my business, I would go to gas stations and put up a sign on a bulletin board with tear off numbers. but as time has gone by, I have 5 star reviews on google, so people call often because of the reviews I am given.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about TaDa! Gadget Repair?
as I said earlier, I do phone repairs out of my shop off my garage as I am a caregiver for my wife. I really like to connect with each customer and try to understand their needs. I also help them with identifying their need and match the device that would be best for them. I also tell them if a device is worth fixing or not, to help them make a good decision going forward.

I offer on some items such as the Samsung S models, refurbished parts that save them money on the repair. I try to have affordable phones available as many can’t afford a new phone. I do my best to honor God in my business and to encourage others I meet.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
starting out in a business can always have risks, but it just seemed like the right move to have a home based business and really focus on personal customer care, so people feel like they matter.

My newest venture is that I started a podcast. It is called “Tada! Jesus Music Podcast”. It is about the history of Jesus Music (Contemporary Christian Music) from 1960’s-1980’s. I enjoy doing the show and have some followings on different platforms. It was kind of a risk or at least out of my comfort zone as I am not as much a speaker as a musician. I think that you can grow through things that are not comfortable. If I had not gone through cancer, I would have probably not did the seasons of hope cd. that means that i would not have been able to encourage the thousands of people the music has touched. and in 2020 during covid, I was able to get all my music recorded and updated, so now all 26 albums i have done are streaming on all music apps. Just search : David F. Anderson and you will see all the albums including “Seasons of Hope”

Pricing:

  • 200-250 for refurbished phones
