Hidden Gems: Meet Hunter Breault of Low & High

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Breault.

Hi Hunter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became extremely passionate about electronic music when I first heard artists like Tipper and Ott, around the 2010 time frame. I got heavily into electronic music when I started listening to stuff like GRiZ, Pretty Lights, Gramatik, and Opiuo. After I started going to bass music shows heavily, I joined street teams and started promoting regularly funky artists like Megan Hamilton, Manic Focus, Sunsquabi, GRiZ, and music festivals like 515 Alive & Snowta.

In 2018, I had the idea of starting my own promotion company and doing my own events. I honestly had no experience other than my time on the various street teams. I ran an idea by a promoter I looked up to that was managing Beak Nasty at the time, and I asked if we could fly out the drummer named Foxy Dope to perform earlier in the night. I presented the lineup to him and after a long time of trying to lock a venue in for our first show, before we even existed on the internet, First Avenue ended up responding to us. They ended up renting us the infamous 7th St Entry for our first show. Once we locked the venue in, we solidified the lineup and rolled L&H into the world on June 1st, 2018 with this show announcement for August 11th, 2018.

I’ll never forget that show. It is honestly my fondest memory of all time. Seeing the room full of friends and Antic Studios LED wall lighting the place up was absolutely magical. The best part about it was the fact that I had no clue what I was getting myself into at the time. I started L&H with a dear friend of mine, but the music industry is not for everyone, so I have formed a new team and am so thankful for the partner and team I have right now. I’m not sure what I’d do without them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The music industry definitely hasn’t been the easiest thing to navigate. Once I started piling my plate with new adventures for Low & High like adding a record label and artist management agency to the list, on top of being a Booking Agent for CGAgency, and my full-time day job, I have definitely struggled with losing most of my free time. This last year I haven’t gotten to do a lot of outdoor activities like I usually do. I am working on a better work-life balance in order to stay on top of everything. As much as I love music, I need my nature time. I am an avid outdoorsman that loves to hike and camp!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about yourself and Low & High?
I guess you would call me an event promoter, record label owner, and artist manager/management. We specialize in bass music that falls in the psychedelic realm of electronic music. A majority of what we do know is in the “deep dubstep,’ or “experimental bass,” category, but sometimes we branch out and mix it up!

I am technically the co-owner of Low & High, as my partner is Jake Whaley.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson is to not fill my plate too high, and to avoid burning out. I have to remember I do this for the music, art and culture.
