Hidden Gems: Meet Kachi Akwarandu of MN Helper LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kachi Akwarandu.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got into business by circumstance.

In 2023, I lost my corporate IT job. Like many people in that position, my first thought was not entrepreneurship. My immediate goal was simple: find a way to sustain myself while I searched for my next opportunity. While interviewing for different IT positions, I started taking on small home projects to bring in income.

At first, it was just side work. I helped people mount TVs, hang pictures, install curtain rods, assemble furniture, mount shelves, and take care of other small home projects. I had always been a handy person, so the work came naturally to me. What started as a way to get by slowly became something I realized I could build.

After about three months of interviews and uncertainty, I began to look at things differently. I noticed that people genuinely needed reliable help with these types of projects. I also saw that I enjoyed the work, enjoyed meeting customers, and took pride in doing the job properly. That was when I made the decision to stop treating it like temporary side work and start building it into a real business.

That decision became the beginning of MN Helper LLC.

Today, MN Helper LLC provides home services such as TV mounting, painting, kitchen renovation, bathroom remodeling, furniture assembly, picture and art hanging, curtain rod installation, shelving, cabinet mounting, drywall repairs, and other small home improvement projects. Over the past three years, the business has grown through hard work, consistency, customer service, and word of mouth. What began during a difficult season of my life has become one of the best decisions I have made.

Looking back, losing my job forced me to discover a different version of myself. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me that opportunity can sometimes come disguised as a setback. Since starting MN Helper LLC, I have also ventured into other areas of business, including real estate, trucking, and healthcare. But MN Helper will always be special to me because it was the business that showed me what was possible.

I am grateful that I chose to keep going. What started as a way to survive became a business, a brand, and a foundation for everything else I am building.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been very smooth. There has been a lot of learning curves along the way. I switched from bieng an IT Consultant to providing home services so it wasn’t easy to decide to continue in the home services business. However, It has been a blessing meeting thousands of clients during this period and I would never exchange it for anything.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At MN Helper LLC, we help homeowners complete small home projects that make their spaces more functional, comfortable, and beautiful. Our services include TV installation and mounting, painting, kitchen renovation, bathroom remodeling, general mounting projects such as curtain rods, cabinets, shelves, mirrors, artwork, and other small home improvement tasks. We focus on clean, reliable, and professional work, especially for customers who need help with projects that may seem small but still require the right tools, experience, and attention to detail.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The home service industry is just growing and new skill sets will be needed to advance in the space. I plan to hire more skilled people on a contract basis in order to keep up with the demand.
