Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Boyce.
Hi Katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A single Instagram ad literally changed my entire life.
But rewinding a bit first…I started freelancing for Meredith Corporation almost 7 years ago, writing home and design round-ups for BHG.com. Later, my work expanded to writing for their whole family of digital publications, including Travel & Leisure, InStyle, Real Simple, Shape, and People. I loved the work — I still do! We partner on multiple campaigns each year. But I was also eager to create a more consistent workload — and spend more time writing in the home and design industry, which has been a lifelong passion of mine.
So when the internet algorithms dropped an Instagram ad in my lap promoting Sarah Turner’s “Write Your Way to Freedom” program — a comprehensive course and community that teaches people to build their own copywriting business — it felt like fate. I purchased it, dug in, and was immediately blown away by how well entrepreneurship fits my personality and goals.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve partnered with dozens of interior designers and lifestyle brands, writing everything from blog posts and social media content to product descriptions and website words, slowly finding my own niche and mission in the process.
What I’ve learned over time is that my core passion lies in helping creatives tell their story. Honing in on their unique skills and superpowers, then developing brand messaging that connects them to the right audience so they can grow and build a business that feels amazing and aligned.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve realized that entrepreneurship is a bit like an inchworm. It’s never a steady forward motion like you hope, but rather periods where you gather momentum and slowly build upward before you leap forward.
Those momentum-gathering phases can feel like you’re stuck. It’s easy to feel frustrated or like you can’t see what’s next. But I’ve leaned hard on the copywriting and entrepreneurship community. Sarah, herself has been an unbelievable mentor and friend. The whole WYWTF community is like a giant family — it’s so incredibly supportive. Some of us finally got to meet in LA this summer – 70 copywriters and entrepreneurs. It was magical.
These are the relationships that keep me focused. Fellow entrepreneurs have been so overwhelmingly open-handed and generous with their advice, and they’ve cheered me on to the next big leap every time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Katie Boyce Copywriting?
As a copywriter and brand messaging strategist, I specialize in helping creatives hone in on their unique mission and connect with their dream clients.
An artist and design lover myself (I have a fine arts degree and spent a year in grad school for interior design), I know how to speak this unique language. I understand the work and life of creative entrepreneurs in a way most people don’t. I also know firsthand the self-doubt and struggle that come with trying to market yourself and your business.
It’s no secret these business owners are talented. Their portfolios are stunning. But there’s often a disconnect in the creative community when it comes to promoting your work and services. As the saying goes, “You can’t read the label from inside the jar”. You’re too close – you can’t see the full picture. So I help draw out their unique story. We dig into their values, their favorite projects, their dream clients — the business dreams they might not have ever confessed before. And then we create messaging that takes them there.
Over the past year, I’ve developed a VIP offer called the Brand Messaging Intensive to do exactly that. It’s a week-long partnership where we dig deep into their business, their service offerings, and their goals. Then, I create a custom marketing and messaging framework that tells their story in a clear and compelling way. Their very own Brand Messaging Manual. It highlights everything from service offerings and bios to business values, taglines, and more. And because I know marketing often feels like a foreign language, they also get copywriting intel and marketing tips to help them leverage each word.
I’ve seen clients use this Messaging Manual to create entire websites, print marketing materials, social media posts and newsletters — even job postings as they grow. It’s so fun to see them gain confidence and clarity in such a short time frame. To watch their faces light up with pride, excited to tell people about what they do and who they do it for. That kind of confidence is so powerful. I absolutely love watching creatives own their genius — and grow their businesses as a result.
One client had never had a personal bio before — it was always about her business. There was even a bit of hesitancy to talk about her background, because she didn’t see how it was all aligned and relevant. But I said, “Well, let’s just chat a bit. I’ll create a bio for your manual. Whether you end up publishing it on your website is up to you.” And it ended up being her favorite part of the project.
There’s something so powerful about seeing yourself the way others see you — seeing the full picture of all you’ve accomplished, your incredible skills and talents getting the attention they deserve. It really gives you the confidence to show the world what you’re capable of. And that bio is absolutely on the company website. As it should be — her story is so impressive.
At the end of the day, I’m most proud of the relationships I build. This work isn’t merely transactional for me. It can’t be! It’s so intimate, and I never take for granted the way people let me into their lives and their work. So I guess it makes sense that so many deep friendships form, but I never stop being blown away by it. Floored that you can feel such a profound connection after a week-long project. It’s really special. I’ve had lunch with clients when I’m in their cities, and it feels like two old friends getting together again.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Watching my clients build the businesses they want — and the lives they want. Because, at the end of the day, that’s what this is about. Creative work is never a 9-5. It’s who you are. So building a business that lets you live a creative life, earn good money, and have plenty of time and energy for your friends and family, too? That’s the dream.
The world doesn’t need more starving artists. It needs creatives who have an abundance of resources — time, energy, inspiration, and yes, money — to show the world new perspectives. Art and design literally alter the way we think, feel, and live. Well-designed products and spaces improve every aspect of our lives. This type of work is absolutely essential. The more artists and creatives see this in themselves and their work, the better off we all are.
