Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Britz.
Hi Kristina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a passion for event planning and event design; which worked in my favor as I progressed in my career within the corporate events space. In that time, I realized that my passion had shifted more towards the creative side of events and further from the actual planning of events.
The idea for Betty’s Love, to provide precurated tablescape rental packages, truly derived from my experience with my own wedding. I quickly realized that planning a corporate event with a team of people behind me was far different from planning a wedding essentially on my own. Being on a DIY budget, I was the planner, coordinator, designer, decorator, and florist for my wedding. In stretching myself that thin, this beautiful DIY table decor design that I had dreamt up over the last year ended up being lack-luster, to say the least. That’s really where Betty’s Love came to life. Because I wanted that Pinterest perfect table decor for my wedding, but my time and my budget wouldn’t allow for it.
With the rising cost of weddings and events, and the rising amount of obligations we all have taking up our time, I really wanted to create a solution for couples to still have a beautiful tablescape for their guests without sacrificing their budget or their time. Betty’s Love is for the couple with a DIY budget and no DIY time; or the couple that maybe doesn’t have an eye for design and doesn’t know where to start. Every couple deserves to have a wedding just as beautiful as they are, no matter the budget.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Diving into the wedding industry definitely came with it’s share of struggles. Much of this industry is built by word-of-mouth, so I quickly learned that networking is a key element to success. As an introvert, I have to consciously make time to do my outreach to other vendors in the industry and be present in all the local wedding groups and message boards. Because word-of-mouth is such a strong tool in the wedding industry, marketing in general can be a costly challenge. It took me a little too long to realize that prioritizing SEO is essential in any marketing plan. I spent a lot of money in prioritizing my presence on other big name wedding planning platforms, and simply making SEO changes to my website out performed all of my efforts on those other platforms.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Betty’s Love specializes in providing precurated tablescape packages for rent. Each package is priced and rented by the table, and includes a premium silk floral arrangement, LED candles, candle holders, and a table runner. There are currently 4 collections with a 5th being launched this spring/summer, and all include multiple tablescape designs to fit any budget for round or rectangular tables. By having precurated collections, and removing the added labor costs of custom designs, Betty’s Love is able to provide clients with a professional looking tablescape at a fraction of the cost to hire a designer. I’ve worked very hard to build the pricing structure to be at or below what it would cost to DIY the same look.
With each tablescape rental, all of the table decor is packed by the table and each includes a table styling guide. This method allows couples to easily hand the decor off to a coordinator, friend, or family member to set up each table. Simply take one tote over to each table, and set up the decor utilizing the styling guide to make everything look perfect and allow the nearlyweds to just enjoy their special day. I also offer set up and tear down services for those that need a little extra help on wedding day. This is system is really what sets Betty’s Love apart from other decor rental providers and from other event designers. I can give a tailored experience to each of my clients, as an event designer would, at the same cost as other decor rental providers who don’t necessarily have that personalized touch.
The beauty of Betty’s Love is that the system is so simple that it’s not just for large weddings. Betty’s Love is perfect for micro-weddings, showers, birthdays, non-profit events, and even dinner parties. With all of these events, we’re buying decor that we’re only going to once. Renting decor for smaller events is not only more affordable, but it’s less wasteful as well.
Having just crossed the 1 year threshold of being in business, I’m still most proud that I had to courage to get started. I am also very proud that I have been able to stay true to my brand in providing elegant and affordable table decor options.
What are your plans for the future?
I have recently added a luxury picnic set to the Betty’s Love inventory. The set can host up to 14 people and includes the tables, floor pillows, customizable decor packages, and many other add ons for the perfect little get together. I’ll soon be adding a tea set with tea cups and saucers for tea parties as well. This was a really exciting launch for Betty’s Love early this year and I can’t wait to see all of the different kinds of parties that our clients host.
Later this year, I also plan on launching a “Betty’s Basics” collection, which will include tablescape packages designed only with LED candles and candle holders. This new collection will include designs that can stand alone without flowers, for those looking for more affordable decor options; as well as designs that can be paired with bud vases or other floral arrangements for those creating their own florals or working with a florist.
