Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Dickinson.
Hi Kyle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We took over Ed Barbo’s Columbia Clothing in March of 2025. We are both honored and humbled with the responsibility of carrying forward the 120 year old business.
We are two brothers who come from a long line of entrepreneurs. We know the time it takes to build trust with a clients and how quickly that can be wiped away.
Every decision we make and brand decision is made with the client and trust in mind.
And we are excited to show our clients our new lines from new suits to fun fall chino options to authentic Harris tweed outerwear straight from England!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being in business always has its trials and tribulations. Some of our notable challenges include a remodel of our store, merging our vision into the brand, and implementing new solutions to solve the needs of our clients. It hasn’t all been bumpy though. We have enjoyed meeting the clients and hearing the stories they all carry!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Columbia clothing was founded in 1905 in a very different Duluth era. We are now the fourth generation owners. Over the century, we have collected knowledge and techniques that only time can teach.
We focus on men’s formal wear ranging from the sharpest tux to practical dress shirts. Our experience allows us to match the perfect outfit to the man’s dreams and pain points. If you think formalwear is simple, you would be very wrong.
We focus on craftsmanship and heritage lines. If you’re looking for the latest in men’s fashion, that’s not always us. If you are looking for heritage and high quality clothing that you can pass along to your son or grandsons, that’s where we shine.
We are honored to be in the wedding space. We enjoy hearing the stories and watching plans come together right before us. We take that responsibility very seriously and look forward to visiting with any readers here who may be tying the knot soon or may be attending a wedding soon.
We are working on bringing in new lines this fall so we encourage readers to keep an eye on us.
And come in just to see the 1905 safe from our founding. Trust us, you wouldn’t be the first to come in just to swing the big ironclad doors.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is where growth happens when it’s done with the clients in mind. Of course buying a business is one of the largest risks we have taken.
We have several big risk taking opportunities in the near future that we feel our clients will be excited about.
When we evaluate risks, we always view it through the lense of our clients first. We then find a way to do a small test or experiment to start validating the concept before jumping in with both feet. And we have clear exit parameters and stop points.
