Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Conway.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child my grandparents were my daycare. My grandmother never had a drivers license and as a 9 year old boy I was tired of watching soap operas in the summer with her. My grandfather was a contractor and I asked to go to work with him. We did mostly residential exterior remodeling like roofing, siding, concrete etc.
I have stayed in the trades my entire life. I lived and worked in Florida for a few years building high end luxury homes on the beach. I helped grow another exterior remodeling company here in Minnesota for 13 years before deciding I wanted to make a change and do things a little differently.
That is when I started Avalanche Home Services. We are dedicated to giving back to the community. For every 25 paying jobs we do I donate one complete job to someone in need for free. This spring we did a roof, siding and gutters for a military veteran and police officer that was injured in the line of duty. We also did a roof for a single mom to a special needs daughter and she is also a breast cancer survivor. The latest project we did was soffit and fascia for a single mom and police veteran who needed her attic sealed up from critters chewing in through the old wooden soffits.
I wanted this company to be the opposite of what you see so many stereotypes about our industry. We do high quality work and we walk the homeowners through every step of the process whether that is storm damage or just a retail job where they need a new roof, siding, gutters or deck.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been doing this work for 34 years. I have seen a lot ups and downs along the way. From the highs of the early 2000’s to the low of the 2008 housing crisis. Every step has had its challenges but when you love what you do for a living you just adapt and find a way to over come and stand out from your competition.
We’ve been impressed with Avalanche Home Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a residential exterior remodeling company. We specialize in roofing, siding, gutters and decks.
We base everything on giving back to the community. For every 25 paying projects we donate one completely free to someone in need. We look for people who have spent their entire life giving back to their communities and now they could use a hand themselves.

The biggest support I have had is my wife. This was a crazy unique idea for a business and she has supported me every step of the way.
