Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Boggs.
Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Nisswa, Mn and graduated cosmetology school in 2011! I worked in the brainerd lakes area for the salon industry for about 13 years and my dream had always been to have my own hair salon someday! My friend mentioned a barndominium style building that just went up near east gull lake and that the owner of the building was possibly renting out spaces to entrepreneurs I had always wanted more of a modern industrial space but nothing really caught my eye. In October 2023 I went and met the owner Lucas Pickle and we got talking about my vision for the space and a few weeks later I got the ball rolling! I signed papers and could move into the space within that month! The space needed some work done to make sure it would pass state and local inspection so it wasn’t until April 1st 2024 that N + B Studio Salon opened! For five months I worked behind the chair at a different salon while managing the construction in the new space! It was by far the most stressful five months of my life! My vision for my space was to maintain a very industrial modern vibe. The salon has a large garage door that we have open in the warmer months that makes your experience with us like no other salon in the area. We’ve had some of the most beautiful days behind the chair doing what we love with the garage door open! In April it will be year two for N + B Studio Salon and i am so proud of how much growth as a salon owner and as a salon we’ve had in the last couple years with traveling out of state for some of the best education and making connections with other small business owners! All of the support has been amazing! I just want to keep growing and learning I have so many more visions for the future of N + B!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a new business owner I don’t think anything’s been perfectly smooth without a few bumps in the road there would be no growth or learning. Going from being an employee to the employer you really look at things in a different way! My biggest struggle was navigating that but through the challenges you find your way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our salon is built on passion, artistry, and community. We’ve traveled out of state to learn from one of the best stylists in the industry Devyn Pennel owner of braggnbeauty, bringing that elevated level of skill and inspiration back to our clients every day. We will be taking on another extension class in January by Malia Extensions as well so we are always learning and taking on new education in the industry! N + B Studio Salon is a AVEDA salon but we’re artist so we do love to use other products in the industry Redken is one we all love! The people who sit in our chairs aren’t just clients they’re family and we take pride in creating a warm, welcoming experience where everyone feels seen and valued. Our space is truly one of a kind in the area, thoughtfully designed to feel both modern, industrial yet comfortable, making every visit feel special from the moment you walk in.
What matters most to you?
That the salon is always growing and learning! Our industry is always changing and we need to change with the industry. Going to classes and traveling to learn from some of the best artist in the hair industry is so important.
