Hidden Gems: Meet Peter Minor of DMC Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Minor

Hi Peter, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was young I always wanted to be a veterinarian, and my interest was in animals not humans. I started my undergrad and also started a family. As I was not able to go to school and raise a family at the same time, I put my family first. As my family grew, my children taught me many things. One of those lessons was that humans are just as fascinating, fun and loving as animals are. As time went on, our kids had health issues and we did our best to help them. That is when we found NAET, Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique. My son started this treatment and it worked very well, so we all started going. At this time, I worked in manufacturing and I wasn’t able to advance my career without more
education. I wanted to get a degree in something that I was passionate about and that was helping people and not just simply to advance my career. I asked my mentor what I would need to do in order to practice NAET, which turned out to be a Master’s in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Becoming a licensed acupuncturist and learning about this style of medicine was a difficult journey. This is due to the required shift in thinking about the body and pathology. However, the theory and philosophy of this medicine resonates with my core being so much so that I feel I found a home in it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I was completing my clinical rotations, it was during COVID and we were not allowed to see patients. My fellow acupuncture students were given examples of case studies/histories by our professors and in lieu of patients had to work on each other. My kids volunteered to be needled as well and that was a big help. The school I was attending was forced to shut down right when I was about to graduate, so it was a race to the end. I am very fortunate to have an understanding family and patient with my “Its finals, school closing and board exams craziness, ahhh” I had during this time. Throughout my college career I worked full time. Roughly halfway through I was presented with an opportunity to start at DMC Healing as a part time practitioner so I jumped at the chance. Suddenly I found myself working or going to school everyday of the week and having a great time at it! My Chinese sign is a horse and horses like to work. I worked hard for a few years at that and graduated. I then was able to replace my schooling with a part time acupuncture position. I was fortunate enough to learn from another wonderful mentor that had entered my life and am forever grateful. It has been a different learning curve being a small business owner. It has different challenges then working in clinic so it keeps my mind always thinking about the business in one way or another.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Unlike other acupuncturists my focus is on allergy elimination through the amazing practice of NAET. It has a 40 year long history of helping people who have been pushed outside the normal medical avenues. In NAET, allergies can be anything and cause any type of reaction. NAET uses the term allergy loosely to describe intolerances and sensitivities as well as IgE mediated allergies. When we say anything we really mean it. Opening your mind to this way of thinking broadens your perspective and helps you find causes that just aren’t thought of as being symptom producing. NAET defines allergies as being blockages in the energy flow of meridians according to acupuncture theory. By treating for these blockages with NAET, it stops that first step from happening and eliminates the cascade of reactions downstream. It combines the modalities of applied East Asian Medicine, kinesiology, chiropractic, and nutrition to help you become the masterpiece you are capable of. I use acupressure day to day and when the need arises I use needles for my patients. NAET can help with a multitude of issues. It really helps you to see that our environment and food have a lot of potential to cause us random symptoms. Advantages to NAET are its a highly individualized medicine and works with and around any other modality. That enables it to be a great edition to anyone’s team of health care practitioners and services.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
By the time I was 12 my family had moved 5 times, 3 of those moves were in one year with 3 different elementary schools during that period. The lesson from all this was that being in new places you need to explore, not only the environment but the people as well. You have to put yourself out there and keep trying new things with new people till you find friends. This started my love of learning about people’s stories and how they arrived where they are now. One of my favorite parts about being a practitioner is I get to learn and listen to people’s stories. It truly is wonderful.
I am a kid of the 80’s and 90’s so naturally I enjoyed bikes (with pedals). My brother was a championship BMX’er and I was not. I loved riding and jumping bikes though, and that led me to procure one of the old Mountain Dew Action Crew’s ramps across town. The guy I got the ramp from was moving and going to college so we disassembled it and moved it to my friend’s house. His parents found out about the insurance liability and said it had to go, so my parents were gracious enough to lose their whole front yard to a bunch of ramps. It was quite a bit of fun building and riding. Then it came time for me to head off to college so I found another young kid and passed the ramps on to him. He also put them in his yard and became quite good at it. Fantastic to see!
