Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Barnett
Hi Richard, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Carolina bred gentleman that graduated from North Carolina A & T State University with a major in agriculture education and a minor in plant soil sciences. I started my professional career as a manager trainee in St Louis. MO with Cargill in 2007. My corporate career ended with POET Biorefinery in 2019 as a maintenance manager. November 2019 I made the decision to start Barnett Pro Care with a walk-behind snow blower and my 1 ton pick-up providing a quality snow removal service for commercial and residential accounts in Southwest Minnesota. The spring of 2020 rolled around and the decision to step up to the next level was made. Barnett Pro Care was providing a full property maintenance service for the area over the next couple of years. With a strong background learning the concrete industry working evenings and weekends in my spare time I slowly earned a concrete finishers title and with that experience I molded Barnett Pro Care to solely offer concrete services and products. To present day Barnett Pro Care has 300 accounts that we have served and/or still providing a quality service to. As the years progress and lack of willing talent in the area to build a “A-Team” type crew, I began to look for other avenues to generate revenue such as being a local distributor of insulated concrete forms and specialized lubricant’s.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Obstacles or hurdles is are in what you make of them! For some a hurdle make be a major set back or just a simple event of flat tire which eats up time and little cost. Overall a guy has to remember to roll with the punches.
Our business has transformed since 2019 from a pick-up and walk-behind snow blower to offering retail products for the consumer. Traditional our services have been geared towards property maintenance and projects in the residential to commercial setting.

Barnett Pro Care is know for providing a quality service while meeting tight deadlines. In 2022 we made the decision to offer concrete products to the consumer as another avenue of income. With being in business you tend to evolve and expand on areas of focus. Property maintenance it really broad and I wanted to hone in on a specific area of being a contractor so we chose the concrete industry to focus on. With being in the trades since I was born with my family background I have put my body through numerous job-site that required me to push the limits of my bodies mechanical ability. So here most recently we formed BIG OIL SALES promoting Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricant’s . This allows us to reach a bigger market and gets me off my hands and knees literally! So we offer an extensive line of oil, grease and aerosol products for vehicles and equipment of various sizes and levels. BIG OIL SALES has a great opportunity to provide a premium product and service to the Southwest Minnesota region “GODS COUNTRY”.
What makes you happy?
Knowing that we are building a legacy for the next generation of our family as an option to keep progressing in the future is what makes me happy. Our children do not have to take the business(s) over however if our children follow a different path we as parents will still support. In conclusion My Wife Jessica is my biggest cheerleader and leading partner in life, I love her dearly and without her the world stops spinning!
