Hi Robin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Heaven Scent Home Cleaning over 31 years ago with just $20 and a determination to build a better life for my family. After years of running a service business, I saw firsthand how much time contractors wasted driving to estimates. That experience inspired me to create Virtual Bid, a live video walkthrough platform that helps service professionals see the job, quote with confidence, and often book the work before they ever arrive. Today, I’m proud to lead both companies and continue building solutions based on real-world experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a successful cleaning business was challenging, but building a technology company without a technical background was an entirely different level. I’ve faced funding challenges, product setbacks, and plenty of moments where I had to learn something completely new. Through it all, I’ve stayed focused on the people I’m building for. Every obstacle has made Virtual Bid stronger and reminded me that persistence is often a founder’s greatest asset.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
For more than 30 years, I have owned and operated Heaven Scent Home Cleaning, and my education in business came from doing the work. For more than 25 years, I cleaned houses alongside my team, built relationships with customers, learned how to lead people, and created systems as the business grew.
I was also raising a family and learning how to navigate the challenges of being a woman building a business without formal business training. I learned through grit, resilience, mistakes, and figuring out what worked.
One problem I kept running into was the traditional in-person estimate — driving across town just to see a job, sometimes without ever booking it. After living that frustration for years, I started asking why there wasn’t a better way. That question eventually became Virtual Bid®.
What I am most proud of is that everything I have built comes from real experience. Heaven Scent taught me how to serve, lead, problem-solve, and build systems. Virtual Bid is the next chapter of that journey — taking a problem I lived for decades and creating a better way forward.

Most people are surprised to learn that, in addition to founding Virtual Bid® and running a cleaning company for more than 31 years, I’m also the author of the Adventures of Sleepy Lion children’s book series. Whether I’m building technology for contractors or writing stories for children, my goal is the same: create something that genuinely helps people. I enjoy proving that you don’t have to fit into one box to make an impact.
