Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2018, I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BSB in Marketing. Three months later, I boarded a one-way flight to Vietnam with nothing but my backpack and laptop – intent on building an online business as a freelance marketer and content creator.
Six months after that, I had scaled my freelance business to a full-time career, working with clients back in Minneapolis and other US cities. In 2021, I launched Dang Fine Creative: A content marketing agency focused on helping brands share their unique personality and purpose. We offer social media strategy + content, branding, copywriting, website design, creative direction, and more.
While we still call Minnesota our HQ, you’ll find us living overseas for part of the year between long stays in Europe in the summer and Indonesia in the winter.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! There has been a massive learning curve, but I’m grateful for every challenge that has both taught me so much about entrepreneurship and also improved my skillset as a marketer and creative.
In the early days back in 2018-2020, I had to teach myself everything I know about building a website and a digital presence. There was a lot of trial and error, trying to figure out everything works. I knew I was a creative at heart, but my education had been largely focused on larger-scale business – meaning I didn’t know how to operate as a freelancer.
I focused on networking as much as possible while building my skillset. Day by day, it all started coming together…
We’ve been impressed with Dang Fine Creative, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dang Fine Creative is a digital content agency serving up thoughtfully curated ideas and innovations for brands who are down to be bold. Through clever social media strategies and content, bespoke copywriting, content + email marketing, and a million other little “wow that’s creative”-worthy ideas, we’re equipped with the know-how and passionate drive to accelerate a brand’s presence. – We have a background in journalism and know how to craft effective messaging that reaches target audiences. While building my career as a freelancer before I started DFC, I also was working on becoming a published writer. Since then, my writings about travel, business, and lifestyle have been published by outlets such as Business Insider, Lonely Planet, Fast Company, VICE, and more.
– We’re personally invested in the success of our clients. Our mindset is that of a partner, not just another vendor. We really care about our clients, and we’re always available to discuss big picture ideas about their business in addition to our day-to-day responsibilities.
– We believe in the power of aligned connections and uphold integrity in all that we do. Openness, transparency, and strong communication are our jam. We’re honest and will never try to sell you on anything you don’t need. We keep it real and enjoy getting to know our clients as the unique humans they are.
What’s next?
Nothing too crazy – we just had a soft rebranding last year so our new look is polished and ready! We’d love to maintain the same great energy with our clients and also get to know more people across different industries. We are industry-agnostic and work with anyone that we feel alignment with, regardless of what their business is.
