Hidden Gems: Meet Soukkay Keomysy of Raymond James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soukkay Keomysy.

Hi Soukkay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am first generation immigrant from Laos. I left Laos in 1975 after Vietnam war. Fled to Thailand and was in the refugee camp for 4 – 5 years. Finally, We were approved to immigrate to America and were sponsored by Mormon family in Sandy Utah in 1980. I didn’t know a word of English and was put in 3rd grade among other kids.
We struggled and had to adapt fast to our new home. Some of my first jobs were raking leaves at 13, picking berries in Fresno, delivered pizzas, McDonalds. I attended Fresno State university then transfer to U of M. My family moved to Twin cities in 1990 to unite with my dad and other siblings. We were separated leaving Laos. I started working at Norwest bank in operations which became Wells Fargo. Later I worked at Norwest Investments. I became an assistant in 1997, got licensed and became financial advisor 1999. I believed the struggles and hardships builds character and makes me work hard. Giving up was never an option. As successful financial advisor, I appreciate everything I have and always reminded where I came from and to treat others with respect and courtesy no matter where they’re from.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Coming to a new country not knowing word of English, culture, custom is very difficult. Especially for my mother who was a nurse in Laos. Her credentials no longer valid in US. She worked at sponge factory riding a bike to work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Raymond James?
I am an independent financial advisor. Meaning I used unbiased recommendation to help my clients meet their financial goals. We used an open architect approach to investing. I believe in excellent customer service and talking to my clients. During good markets and bad markets, good communication is important. My strengths are vast experiences in life, world travel and dealing with all kinds of investments since 1993. Including municipal bonds, stocks, options, financial planning, etc. I used languages that my clients can understand and can relate.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me success is being able to provide a comfortable home for my family and give my kids everything possible for them to achieve their own success. And also have resources and money to give back to the community or charity. To have a comfortable life for my family and help others
