Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffen Sharikov.
Steffen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Steffen Studios began in 2019 in Jordan, Minnesota, as a one-man team focused on fashion photography.
At the time, I was in medical school, but I always had a deep passion for photo and video. I started by filming and editing content for our nonprofit ministry, posting videos on YouTube. With the right storytelling and marketing, those videos started reaching thousands, and then millions. We recently surpassed 100,000 subscribers, which was an absolutely incredible milestone.
That journey sparked something in me. I took a hiatus from med school, I realized I wanted to pursue this full-time. I emptied my bank account, put my last dollar into a studio space, and never looked back.
What started as a goal to get published in 50 magazines quickly turned into front covers, book covers, billboards, and beyond. As client needs evolved, we organically expanded into commercial photography and full-scale video production.
Though we always dabbled in video, it wasn’t until we built the right team, invested in equipment, and leaned into strategy that our video work became a core part of what we do. From local businesses to national campaigns, we’ve grown into a full-service creative studio delivering high-end photo, video, branding, and content, all under one roof.
Our passion lies in telling authentic stories. Whether it’s for a brand, entrepreneur, or community, we believe creative work should not only look incredible but also drive meaningful results.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t been without challenges.
In 2020, like many small businesses, we had to adapt quickly during the COVID 19 pandemic, navigating shutdowns, canceled shoots, and a world that suddenly went remote. It forced us to get creative, rethink our offerings, and lean harder into digital content and storytelling.
Then in 2025, as the economy shifted again, we faced new pressures, rising costs, tighter client budgets, and the need to evolve once more. It wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly rewarding. Each challenge pushed us to sharpen our focus, strengthen our relationships, and ultimately build a more resilient, mission driven studio. The hard seasons shaped our creativity, deepened our purpose, and reminded us why we do what we do.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to keep showing up. Success is persistence, not perfection. You’re going to make mistakes, hear “no,” and feel stuck at times, but the people who break through are the ones who don’t quit.
When it comes to finding mentors or networking, be intentional, but also be genuine. Reach out with curiosity, offer value where you can, and don’t be afraid to learn from people who are just a few steps ahead of you. What’s worked well for me is building real relationships over time, not just collecting contacts. Consistency, humility, and a willingness to grow, that’s what opens doors.
