Hidden Gems: Meet Teal Foster of Refine Wellness Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teal Foster.

Hi Teal, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a nurse practitioner and the founder of Refine Wellness Clinic in Stillwater. Starting the clinic came from a mix of frustration and wanting more freedom in my life. I was working in traditional healthcare where visits felt rushed and care often stopped at quick fixes. At the same time, I wanted more flexibility to actually be there for my kids. I knew there had to be a way to practice medicine differently while building a schedule and life that worked for my family too.

I opened Refine to create the kind of clinic I always wished existed. We focus on hormones, weight loss, and aesthetics, but the bigger goal is helping people feel like themselves again. I wanted a space where patients feel heard, where care is personalized, and where we focus on realistic, long-term results instead of trends or quick fixes.

Like most small business stories, it hasn’t been perfectly smooth. There’s been a lot of learning, long days, and figuring things out as I go. But building something of my own has allowed me to care for patients the way I believe in and still be present for my family, which was the whole point from the start.

I’m proud that Refine has become a place that feels approachable, honest, and grounded in real results. At the end of the day, I just want people to walk out feeling better, more confident, and more like themselves.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been realizing just how much constant pivoting comes with owning a business in this space. When I started, I thought if I built a solid clinic and did good work, things would feel more stable. In reality, I’ve had to continuously adapt to client needs, changing trends, economic fluctuations, shifts in medications and regulations, and the pace of new science in medicine. It’s a constant balance of staying evidence-based while also staying relevant and financially sustainable.

I also underestimated how much of entrepreneurship is figuring things out in real time. As a clinician, I was trained to take care of patients, not to run a business. Suddenly I was responsible for marketing, operations, staffing, finances, and long-term strategy while still seeing patients every day. There have been plenty of moments of trial and error, recalculating, and making hard decisions without a clear roadmap.

Cash flow and consistency have been real stressors too. In a small, service-based business, revenue isn’t always predictable, and every change in the economy or industry has a ripple effect. There have been times where I’ve had to rethink entire parts of the business model just to keep things moving forward.

On top of that, balancing this with family life has been its own challenge. One of my biggest motivations for starting the clinic was to have more flexibility to be present for my kids, but building something from the ground up still takes a lot of time and mental energy. I’ve had to learn how to set boundaries, adjust expectations, and accept that balance isn’t static. It’s something I’m always working toward.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Refine Wellness Clinic?
I help people feel better, look more like themselves, and take control of their health through thoughtful, personalized care that blends medicine, aesthetics, and wellness.

What matters most to you? Why?
At the end of the day, what matters most to me is building a business that supports both my patients and my life outside of work. I started this clinic because I wanted more autonomy in how I care for people and more flexibility to be present for my kids. So success, for me, isn’t just growth or numbers. It’s creating something sustainable that allows me to show up well in both roles.

It also matters that the care we provide is honest and grounded in real medicine. There are a lot of trends in this industry, and it can be tempting to chase whatever is popular. I care about offering treatments that are safe, evidence-based, and actually help people feel better long term. I want patients to feel heard, supported, and confident in their care, not pressured or sold to.

I’ve learned that what matters most is staying adaptable without losing your values. Things will always change in business and in medicine. Trends shift, the economy shifts, and life shifts. Being able to pivot while staying true to why I started this in the first place has been key.

Ultimately, what matters is building something meaningful. A clinic that helps people feel better in their bodies and a business that allows me to be present for my family and still love the work I do.
